I could swear they said it goes by where you saved, not party members. However that means you have to have other friends that saved at the same spot if you switch them out. I also want to say if you switch out and someone has an earlier save point, the rest of you have to go back to the earlier point. They won't advance someone further through the raid because other party members have a later save point. That's why they stress you need 6 committed people.

Even if they are committed life gets in the way, so sotmimes you might need to switch people out once in a while due to work, family emergency or they live in another time zone and are asleep.

Correct. You just need to be prepared to have to find someone on the same save point as the rest of you or be prepared to have to repeat some content to get your replacement caught up.
