Having more interactivity with NPCs would be great, such as normal folk commenting on rumours and your progress in the story. In the beta I didn't feel confident that the rest of the game would explain what was going on in the story, so having people follow that up with their perspective (rather than our Ghosts') would be great. Another thing I'd love to see is context sensitive objects like having a drink at a bar, sitting on a sofa, playing mini-games or just admiring oneself in a mirror. Seeing as you can't just sit there and wait for matchmaking to queue you up and zip you into the gameplay, it's not as though much is needed. In WoW this seems to be the case; most of the endgame can be done through menus, and there's almost little reason to leave the capital city because of all your resources being there. Having something to do like playing Hearthstone or other fun activities would make waiting for queues to pop better. Here that's not really needed - the Tower is a pitstop for loot and reputation, before going back into the frey. If Destiny had more options for grouping in the tower and communicating with people who aren't in your fireteam I'd say the Tower could benefit from board games and roleplay gimmicks. But because Bungie want you to do that through the website rather than in the game, there's almost no point in putting additional resources into the one place you shouldn't be in for longer than 5-10 minutes.
