Actually, some of the first games I ever played were Gnop and Dark Castle on my parent's college computer, but that doesn't count since it isn't a dedicated gaming console.
Original GameBoy. Super Mario Land was the first game I owned for it.

I'd say that still counts if that was your first exposure to games. I missed out on text based games. The closest I got was having to type in commands to have my character on screen do something. You just brought me back to the days I'd play Hugo... lol god I'm old...

And this! It wasn't until three years ago I learned Bungie made that game, I was freaking out.
