How can the tower be a social hub if you can only talk to you fire team. I know of the down side with undisciplined youth but the benefits far out way a slight inconvenience. If a mute option was added then there would no issue.
A wave or a dance is not much of a way to express one self to strangers.
In your normal day you pass many people with the opportunity to interact with conversation why should the tower be any different.
Bungie claims this great place to interact yet all I saw was venders a mail box and two balls.
Its missing the one thing that we as humans do best and that is a conversation with a stranger. A simple HI goes a long way to making a friendship.

1 ReplyYou just need to know destiny sign language. It is actually pretty easy. Wave = Hi Point = look there Dance = yay! Point+point = go there. Dance+point+wave+wave+dance+point = looking for a group for weekly. Wave+wave+dance+dance+point+point+wave+dance = looking for group for nightfall Wave+dance+point+wave+wave+wave+dance = looking for naughty chat Dance+dance+dance+dance+dance = I have Devon mental issues will you be my friend. Sit down = looking for group for VoG.

6 RepliesTo clarify the issue. Prox chat could be set to default OFF in the tower. Fire team chat is not effected. Each time a player goes to the tower and wishes to use prox chat they would have to turn it on. If a player never turns it on they will never hear anything but the fire team. This would allow for choice. The question now would be is it the choice of on option that bothers those that are against it?

I had a dream last night that I interviewed Deej and he told me they would be adding proximity in later but than I woke up :(

3 RepliesIt is my belief that bungie in there infinite wisdom to give us full control with restriction is no control at all. I agree that there are players out their that get pleasure from offending others yet if noone stands up and says anything the victim suffers and offender continues. Its called bulling. To stop a bully you call them at their own game. If one of their friends says to stop they will more than likely stop. A victim who does not speak up is no victim. In the end its is a game meant to entertain and no one should have to suffer. Though I don't fully agree the reasoning is sound. Prox chat may never exist in this game and I feel that it may take away some of its potential. We are all to be punished for the irresponsible few that may never grow up.

4 RepliesMove to within earshot of someone and wave (chat invite sent). The other person waves back (invitation accepted). Chat to your hearts content! Once done walk out of hearing range (chat session ended).

2 RepliesI would prefer text chat in the tower rather then 12 kids blasting music through there mics 24/7
-
Erm. I lost my voice while I was fighting in the WW2... Thats why I bought a mic to... Talk.

1 ReplyEdited by Quarkane: 8/26/2014 7:55:17 PMAh yes, I can imagine me stitting at the tower about to get off for the night, when suddenly: "HEY -blam!- WHATCHA UP TO -blam!- 420 BLAZE IT M8". No thanks. I would rather not have my experience ruined BEFORE I change my chat settings. No voice chat will be better for Destiny. If you really wanna voice chat, invite a guy to your fireteam.
-
It would of been good if they had it as an optional feature you could turn on/off, is a little weird that they don't have it since its said to be a social experience, there's only so much dancing one can take haha
-
Yeah..... Bungie screwed up.
-
2 Replies15 plus people talking at once no thanks lol
-
1 ReplyImplement a system where you press a button to talk. If a button has been held down for ____ amount of time the person will be punished for spam. This would fix a lot of the spam and only punish the ones who are purposefully being dicks. I will be pretty disappointed if they dont implement a prox chat since a majority of the community has shown that this is a feature that they want.

Edited by Kekyoin's Underwater Donut: 8/25/2014 9:27:38 PMA very interesting but easily fixable topic of discussion. I have actually supported this idea in a previous post very similar to this one. While it is a good idea it would open up a lot of problems and possibly ruin the game for a LOT of people. While yes...you could just turn it on or off with the simple push of a button...it still doesn't fix the problem of lack of communication a whole lot. I think what Bungie is doing with it is just fine, but if they did add proximity chat (much to the anger of quite a few gamers)...you should at least be able to mute it entirely. The people who support it just happen to be more vocal than the people who don't, so a lot gets lost through lack of voicing your opinion. Be heard people...that is the only advice I can give you.
-
The even bigger question is if you can only chat with a max of 3 or 6 in a fire team what would be the point of a clan if your friends are on your friends list.?
-
-
There needs to be this option: " Proximity Chat: On/Off " FIXED! Now everyone is happy! I personally like proximity chat, the ability to interact with everyone is fun, assholes make the game hilarious. If people have a problem with chatting with randoms, then let them turn it off, but don't take the ability away from the rest of us!
-
I agree that a player should be muted from the beginning. That way you don't have to go hunt down the guy who's blarring Lil Wayne into this headset. But a simple option to "unmute" or simply open communication with a player for the future would be really nice.
-
The simple question is will there at least be a clan chat option. It would be inconvenient to have to regroup all the time to see who needs what.

7 RepliesOriginal Post - http://www.examiner.com/article/bungie-explains-why-destiny-only-allows-for-chat-between-fireteam-members "We want to make sure your level of social engagement in Destiny is something that you have complete and total control over. We want you to make very deliberate decisions about the people you're going to have on your team, and the voices that you welcome into your audio mix. We've made a lot of games over the years that have brought a lot of gamers together in social and violent [encounters]. We found that people who know each other and trust each other tend to make the best contributions to the party. I can certainly remember playing Bungie games online and other people would use their access of being able to talk to me as an opportunity to incite grief or bully me, [so that's why we did that]," David Dague said. Original Post - http://www.examiner.com/article/destiny-voice-chat-restrictions-explained-by-bungie "One of the things that we're doing for the first time ever in Destiny, we're taking a different approach to voice chat. We know that, not just in multiplayer, that in general, when you get into a game with someone that you don't know or someone that you've never seen before and may never see again, they have this power to completely destroy your entire experience and maybe ruin the game for you forever. And so what we're doing instead of having that...one in ten chance possibility of someone ruining your game, we're effectively saying you only have voice chat to your fireteam. And we're doing other things to let you communicate with other players, but it'll be interesting to see how people react to it, for sure." Lars Bakken

They want us to use those dumb gestures and dances, I guess to flag someone.

4 RepliesPersonally I think an open proximity voice chat would just turn into a huge shit show, sure I can turn it off, but that won't stop it ultimately just being people acting like idiots and saying stupid shit ruffling everyone elses feathers. It will be abused and people will use it to do nothing but fight half the time. I still think a proximity TEXT based chat is a better option. Not only is it just less annoying then having multiple dudes screaming at each other over your speakers, I imagine it'd also be easier to integrate with a reporting system, something that logs the chats for a moderator to review later.
-
Excellent contribution to the discussion sky high. Though I do understand the reasoning I still think it a bit limiting.

1 ReplyWaving is a simple Hi. Fact is I am glad Destiny's soundtrack is under my control, as opposed to having it force me to interact with people whose way of things is normal to them, but potentially rude or distracting to me.
-
CHiraq would be one of the abusers!!!!!!!!

7 RepliesEdited by The Pope 138: 8/25/2014 5:55:27 PMI think voice chat should be with your team or with people you agree to chat with. I don't want to hear a bunch of 12 year old racist homophobes or juggalos blasting their non-music into their mic. And it would be a hassle to mute everyone I come into contact with.
