To me they need more weapon types because it's all military shooter, boring and generic weapons except the fusion rifle, it's very disappointing on that front. I'm glad for all the COD people we are gonna get in in Destiny but disappointed for everyone who expected actual sci-fi weaponry...not generic weapons reskinned.

Thank you for posting, finally, a discussion! I feel like the Warlock is the most sci-fi part of the game. Some guns do have some interesting sci-fi possibilities with the damage types, like arc, solar, and void. It depends on how they go with it though. I feel like they tried to make something for everyone, but skewed too much away for COD people. Probably smart, as COD people are the most numerous and are probably going to be many of the people buying Destiny.

  • My issue with the damage types is they don't actually do anything different right now. As it is, it's only used for resistances..which means their actual use is padding and an extra grind wall where you have to grind for 3-4 times your desired weapon in order to do all the content.it's more padding than a feature. If you are going to add damage types, make sure they do something, I like the way borderlands 2 did it..however I would have taken out the enemy specific resistances and just made the damage types have special effects (one damage over time, one that decreases enemy armor, one that has a chance to stun).....if it's just going to be padding and different color bullets why include it except to add more grind. You don't need that if you really feel you have enough content to keep people playing for fun...and not just for grind. Like this it's a lot more like warframe, where they added different damage types..they call it more depth and customization...I call it finding ways of using the same weapon functions...but being able to sell it 3-4 times.

Maybe I'm reading it wrong or something, but it seems like the damage types all do something special besides void. Looking at that, I was hoping they'd add more to it or there was more hiding.

  • it's possible, but I didn't see anything different in the beta...or maybe it's because I only had void on the guns I used. If so great, but personally I would rather have weapons that fire differently then just different damage types. I posted something bigger in the feedback section about this, but good references for weapon diversity would be the resistance series, ratchet and clank, UT2004 and earth defense force. The problem with trying to do COD in space is that the COD people will all jump ship to COD or battlefield multiplayer as soon as it comes out (which is fine by me) but we will be stuck with those boring weapons.

  • To me, the problem with COD people have been them wanting this game to be COD. They do that, and then play it for maybe a month. Then, the community is drastically shaped, and the people who had to have their features taken away in favor of making the game appeal to CODers are going to wonder why they bought the game. I seriously do hope they elaborate more on damage types though. Like, to the point of which arc guns fire like electricity instead of bullets when they're up to like, legendary. I doubt it, but a guy can wish. I did like the effects that came from killing with an "elemental" weapon though. I feel the issues in weapon diversity are going to become more obvious when people all start using one kind of weapon. I saw in the beta, everyone was Auto Rifle, Fusion Rifle, LMG. I never saw another person use a Pulse Rifle or Hand Cannon. Scout Rifles, RPGS, Shotguns, and Sniper Rifles were rare. The last four weren't even bad weapons either.

  • If they have the rock-paper-scissor approach to damage types and enemies...we should at the very least get a bigger vault to keep the required weapons to do the content..it's no longer a choice to keep a bigger inventory.

  • I think there should be enough space for all of the rare stuff, like every rare gun, and every rare armor bit for all three classes at the very least. I was disappointed when I realized there were like three different vaults with three different access terminals each just to all access the same bank.
