yeah no thanks, if anything I applaud Destiny for giving us the level playingfield to mix race, class and gun loadouts as we wish (within the limits that does exist of course), for me class systems and the limits they impose in rpg is one of those old mechanics I feel should be buried and forgotten, tho Destiny dosn´t go so far it does a decent job of getting close to that. Also very happy Bungie has opted to buff hand cannons instead of going your route and making them secondary.

Again, this isn't locking guns to certain classes. Anyone could be any race, be any class, and use any gun regardless. I'm not looking to take away the realistic possibility of anyone using any decent gun without being underpowered. All this is going off of is the fact that the classes exist in the first place, and their styles push towards different things. Are you going to tell me, looking at a Hunter's background, it looks equally as plausible that they'll spray an Auto Rifle at the target instead of shooting it in the head with a Scout Rifle? I replied to someone with this earlier, why even have classes if people will just use them for the same thing? Why not just have no class, everyone can just apply upgrades where needed, allowing people to use whatever ability, whatever jump, etc. that they want (Which is a possibility, although not my suggestion) and eventually lock in their favorites? The upgrades could lead towards a certain archetypical class, allowing people to make a character that has their play style more fully. Or, it that too level for you? Too unlimited? Too few guidelines? Oh, and I suggested making Hand Cannons SPECIAL, not secondary. Secondaries don't exist in Destiny, specials are more... quirky and powerful than secondaries are in basically every game I've played. Oh, and "my route" would have been to buff them too, same thing going for the Pulse Rifles. And that was merely one suggestion, namely one in the TL:DR, prompting me to believe that is what you read.

That freedom that would still exist. And you sir, you are not one that role-plays it seems. Also, I must sarcastically say that I appreciate you ignoring 90% of my post.

  • Character stereotypes? Is it stereotypical to assume that a magician will use weapons more magical in nature, or that a warrior will use melee weapons, or that a soldier will use guns? Taking it further, it shouldn't be stereotypical that a long-ranged marksman scout would want to use long range weapons, like the Sniper Rifles and Scout Rifles in destiny. It's more of a given than a stereotype. A class would use what that class is good at. I mean, the game already "encourages you" to use certain weapons with certain classes with the backgrounds of the characters, so why not go a step further and acknowledge the fact that people who are good at long range combat will be better with long range weapons, and vise versa? People with magical propensity will use things that are magical in nature, and characters who like close ranged combat will be better at it and in situations involving it than a squishy sniper.

  • Actually yes, it is quite stereotypical and breaking stereotypes is a great thing! I will give you an example. There is an author named Jim Butcher, write a series of books called the Dresden Files. Main Character is a wizard in modern day Chicago. Cliff notes version: all the bad guys are shockingly surprised when the wizard pulls out a revolver and shoots, or punches them in the face, or rushes with his shoulder all instead of using magic. Bungie breaks the stereotype... And good for them for doing it! I am glad they did. The game is not a pure RPG... it just has RPG tendencies.

  • Like I said, no one is forcing anyone to use anything. Apparently playing to your strengths is a stereotype. It seems as if you guys are more against classes than class specific guns, you want to be a hunter that doesn't act like a hunter... for some reason. If you think it's smarter to clear out a cave with a shotgun instead of a sniper rifle, nothing is going to stop you. There would be a class that is better at it then you are, regardless of adding this or not (Titans are speced for close-ranged combat and damage soaking). Allowing anyone to still use any weapon effectively still breaks the "stereotype". And I never said this game was a pure RPG, but it tries to have prevalent RPG tendencies to appeal to people that don't just want to play "just another FPS". This was mostly written as a solution to people who say those tendencies are weaker than marketed. I specifically recall reading an OXM article where the lack differences between classes was the biggest of their few complaints, as well as an article online saying something similar. A few friends have said this as well.

  • My hunter will go clear that cave with a handcannon... not a shotgun and not a sniper... Sniper for long range sure... If Bungie wanted more of an RPG feel, then I am sure they would have done that. But for creating an FPS with RPG elements, so far they have done a great job. Obviously the game isn't out yet. But Bungie never said it was an RPG. The classes have pretty big differences actually, people are just nitpicking that they are not enough. They also have different ways in which to speck different classes... people seem to ignore that part though, or they haven't realized it because they didn't look at the different specs in the beta.
