The effectiveness of the gun is how well the player used it. I didn't quite like the slow reload speed of my handcannon in the beta, but I didn't have issues with its damage output or ammo capacity (my handcannon had the highest damage output per bullet than any other gun I found in the beta). So pretty much any buffs they add to the handcannon at this point is improving my potential in the game. While you may argue that a scout rifle is better in range and reload and I'd agree, but I'd that believing the scout rifle being better over all is your opinion and that is your play style preference. To each their own and if you don't like a handcannon don't use it.

Nobody is denying that a good player can do well with the beta hand cannon. However, that same good player could do BETTER with the scout rifles. 2-3 times the capacity, faster reload faster rate of fire, better range, with only slightly lower damage. Scout rifles were objectively superior to hand cannons. That's why we're glad for the buffs. So the hand cannons are competitive, and we don't have to choose then for the badass factor alone.

I tried running a scout rifle. Fun, but I could nail headshots so much easier with an HC on close up enemies, and if I took an extra millisecond could easily nail headshots long range. Regularly I was on the ledge above the laser grid generator (Devil's Lair) head shotting the snipers while everyone else seemed to be having a hard time taking them out.

  • I'd have to disagree with you on the better part, while some may find the scout rifle better for their playstyle. I found the handcannon and how the weapon behaved in comparison to better suit me. Like I said previously to each their own, but I hate that people would assume that if you take the handcannon away from me and give me a scout rifle I would magically play better when I already have tested that and found it not to be the case. P.S. I'm not saying you're assuming that. I just want to make that point clear so you know where I'm coming from. Also I hope you and everyone disappointed with the handcannon in the Beta find it more suiting for the full release because I loved that weapon and know I'll be using it for the majority of my gameplay.

  • Good luck in PvP using the hand cannon...thats going to get old for you really fast...unless the buffs make a big difference...its simply over-powered by the other guns (in the beta). I see that you used an auto-rifle for majority of your kills in the crucible...

  • Yeah the auto-rifles were the preferred weapon of choice in PvP. I do admit the handcannon is more difficult to use there, but I'll try it again when I get the full game because I'm now at my college dorm (better internet) and I wasn't too bad with the handcannon during PvP, but like you said it got old pretty fast.

  • I was the same way. Maybe on the moon map I could use the scout rifle but I move around to much to use it and I don't like using a scope for a weapon like that.
