Sorry but if I wanted to play borderlands I would... I understand everyone has opinions and respect yours.

  • Both extremely sensible, and probably common, opinions. What do you suggest as a solution to the supposed "lack of" difference between classes? Do you think all three classes should be easily used equally effectively by everyone, regardless of play style? I can see that my opinion is much different than most's already, so I'd like to discuss this. Sorry if I'm utterly wrong or something, but this doesn't seem any less good for me. @X3NOD3ATH, I don't exactly get what you mean by that, except for the fact that you disagree. I actually dislike Borderlands for some weird reason, but I have played it enough to know that any character can use any weapon with pretty much equal effectiveness. Depending on how you spec your skill tree, that might change, but not usually by a lot.

  • My experience with borderlands shows each class has a propensity towards specific weapons. This expands with class spec to a further usefulness towards those weapons. I like the nonspecific class approch. No matter the class or subclass for destiny everything works the same with weapons. Means I can set up a long range titan and a close range warlock and then flip with no penalties. You should have played your strengths in borderlands, you could have done what you wish however it was not easy to deviate from your class weapons and not feel it in some way.

In this video, a developer talks about how they want people to have to make decisions, and about RPG elements in the game, both things somewhat lacking in my opinion. If more of these were added, there would be more immersion, strengthening the game's story by reinforcing lore. If you market a game as such, people expect it. Why not just make a game classless, but have upgrades that you can apply that could possibly lean towards different class-like sides like speed, power, etc. (also allowing people to choose between specials, mix and match abilities, etc.)? That would be even more unspecific, and allow even more plausible builds. There would be no reason for someone to want to limit guns to classes because there would be no "classes" technically. I'm not actually suggesting this, but it seems to be what you're pushing towards. Why even have classes if they don't act that much like distinct, separate classes? Picking what class to use is a decision. Even inside of classes, there are subclasses, and then there are choices inside of subclasses, so it isn't like you don't have many options, and classes are still more unique and less specific. This game has classes for some reason, regardless of the fact that all of the classes are very similar. The whole point of classes is promoting varied gameplay, and allowing people who work best a certain way to be the best they can be, at the cost of things they probably aren't good at or don't want to do. It also allows for people to work together better, if implemented and used properly. And it's not like you'll only have one character, the cap is reached quite quickly and you would be able give your other characters guns they aren't good with. You can go from a long ranged Hunter to a close ranged Titan and flip with no penalties. Oh, and the dev they interviewed shared my opinion of Borderlands, although I mostly played Borderlands 2 (I was more of a fan of 1, but never owned it). I also remember not liking the sights, or the feel of 99% of the guns. But anyway, in Borderlands 2, the only tree in the whole game I really felt forced specialization of weapons was Zer0's Sniping tree. I feel many upgrades pushed towards other weapons, which is possibilitya in my suggestion above. I can't speak for class mods though. Here: http://borderlands.wikia.com/wiki/Zer0/Skill_tree , http://borderlands.wikia.com/wiki/Salvador/Skill_tree , http://borderlands.wikia.com/wiki/Maya/Skill_tree , http://borderlands.wikia.com/wiki/Axton/Skill_tree . I also can't speak for DLC characters. It seems like no one actually wants to suggest things, regardless of the fact that I'm asking for suggestions and apparently some people want change. Many people have complained, although I do like the game as it is and played the beta as much as I could of. Because I like the game, I want it to appeal to more people without losing appeal to others, but that's a difficult balance. I hope Bungie finds a way to make people want to RP more (as in use guns their classes would use), increase immersion, and define better the difference between classes, all without having to add these stats to guns, but I'm having difficulty seeing other ways and I'm not going to complain about my way. There are several ways to apply my way, and I'm guessing some ways could appeal to more than others, and to me it doesn't seem as if people are considering that. Nevertheless, Bungie isn't changing anything now, but this is a discussion.

  • I can totally understand your point of view and your argument holds water. However this being an opinion everyone is entitled to one and i appreciate your reasoned approach, to little do we find and or have reasonable discussions on bungie.net. The borderlands series was good for borderlands. One of the videos i have watched for destiny makes comparisons between destiny and borderlands. My point was one of the points he raised as well as the longevity of loot. On the road to level cap you are constantly moving through weapons, with destiny beta, weapons will be upgrade able, one main point that borderlands you can only move through weapons not affect the way they work. However i have moved off topic. The class system in borderlands made it difficult to respec on the fly to suit suituations. I tried to play to the roles that were there. With Destiny the class set up was so that you could respec on the fly, immeadiately, without having to pay or find a respawn tower. I just dont want to see things move around from the beta. It played smoothly and the skill trees are meant to be simple enough to let the entry level FPS player to jump in without knowing a ton about Skill trees. The uninitiated had a hard time with borderlands. I had to walk many people through it.

  • Ah, I'm finding out more about people being unreasonable on Bnet... @puncho killit. In the game, making decisions is rewarded, namely when you lock in your skills. Respecing on the fly definitely won't always be available. I completely understand how you feel about the beta, I thought it was wonderful. I'm just looking to hopefully improve something that is already great. Many don't mess with a good thing, which is a mentality I understand. If the entry level FPS player can easily jump in and be on par with everyone else, what's the point? Everyone would be pretty equal. I think that a game should be perfectly balanced when people have the same skill level, but a complete noob shouldn't go 15-2 against a pro simply because luck, and the same goes in PvE (when a new player and experienced player are together). I do think it should definitely be easy for new players, but in the sense that they can actually play, not the sense that they can go in and destroy. I don't think making the classes having a clearly best play-style makes things that much/at all more difficult for new players.
