In BF3 me and my friends used to use callouts and clock orientation: like enemy vehicle12'o clock, or sniper 6'o clock. We would just make up our own "north" on the map which became our 12'o clock. When the compass came out in BF4 it made a world of difference to me but it's multiplayer levels were quite large, some with large open fields that were more difficult to identify a target by callout so the compass came in handy. What I've seen on Destiny Beta doesn't lead me to believe we will need as much use for a compass (although id rather have one then not) so maybe callouts are the best way to do it.
