I'm curious to hear any serious arguments against splitscreen... 168 people (at this time) have voted against it; is there any actual reason why it's bad or are you just the kind of person who doesn't want other people getting something because you don't need it?

  • Complete waste of time having bungie add it. Why not have bungie make new content instead?

  • Good point, and I think "resources" is the only good reason to argue against some of the other things people want as well. For example, no idea how hard it would be to build a proximity chat with enough functions to not be intrusive or obsolete.

  • Split screen players seem to mess up pvp with having limited viewing. It's a pain when they are on your team. I'd be fine with them adding it if those players didn't have access to the same servers as to not hinder my gameplay experience

  • Agreed. However, I don't think the game, being an RPG after all, would have a lot of splitscreen players in PvP (since the second player would have to have leveled up a character if they want to keep up) Personally I could see myself using splitscreen in PvE

  • I've never liked split-screen and the only games I've seen that do it well have been the Lego games. Given the online capability of consoles there really isn't a good reason for it. With the Share Play feature coming in the 2.0 update we'll be able to play with friends that don't have the game(not sure if Destiny will support this though). It's not a couch co-op type of game. Golden Eye had split-screen mp and it was awful. If there had been an "it's an outdated and unnecessary feature but if other people want it should be free" option, I would've picked that.

  • That feature presumably allows you to invite a friend to play with you for an hour as if they were sitting next to you on the couch. But wait, you can't play with a friend in the same room, so it won't work. Kinda sad. Hopefully share play will inspire couch coop more.

  • Sounds like you haven't been gaming long. Some of the older Conflict games where great splitscreen. BattleFront was also amazing. Ratchet Deadlocked, Rebel Strike, StarFox Assault, Jedikinght 2: Jedi Outcast, Jedi Academy for the Xbox, Republic Commando, every Halo game. Splitscreen is really fun, you just need the right game for it. Also Borderlands.

  • Been gaming since '86ish. And I've never liked split-screen. No matter the size of the TV it's just too small and/or seems like some of it's missing. I have loads of fun playing multiplayer games with my sons just not the split-screen ones. (Golden Eye was N64 btw)

  • Oh, ok. The line "Only splitscreen games that do good are Lego" made you sound younger, but since you have kids it makes sense why you would say that.

  • The Lego games do a good job of it though; the only ones I've seen that keep the split relative to the players' locations and proximity based. If you know others that do it that way let me know.

  • The only co-op games I know that you aren't confined to one map is Borderlands. BL does it well though.

  • Thanks for the tip. I'll check it out. I'm still wary of first-person games in general even though the beta has swayed me in favor of Destiny.

  • Depending on the type of games you like in general, Far Cry, for example, offers a different kind of first-person experience. Most first-person games are multiplayer FPS shooters anyways

  • Typically I play third person openworld games. If not openworld it's at least third person; I like to see my character.

  • Oh lol, well, Far Cry is at least open world.

  • You're still tethered to each other to a degree though. If player 1 wants to go somewhere player 2 follows. I was surprised how well they did when you play alone, then play with someone. If you have already played that mission you can skip it.
