Am I the only person who thinks the motes of light are a waste of time?
In my opinion it doesn't make any since, if your gonna let me get to a higher level than 20 just let me do it don't make me have to go waste my time trying to get these things. Honestly I think the only reason they're doing this is to add longevity to the game so people have to play longer.
Edit: Look I want a game to be long and filled with content just as much as the next guy but I don't like it when they add unnecessary longevity to a game it's like putting up 20 random walls that the player has to go around just to make it longer. If you want to make the game longer add another strike or something not this
2nd Edit: I and other people due to misinterpreted information thought that the way it worked was that you would hit level 20 them save x amount of some currency and buy a mote of light to get to say level 21 I apologize to anyone who I may have offended or disagreed with my opinion now that I'm more properly informed due to the comments this sounds much better than what I thought.

1 ReplyMotes of light are just currency. The Light [i]stat [/i]is a gear attribute. More Light on your gear makes your effective level higher.

1 ReplyWell, I really like the motes of light idea. For those of you who still don't understand the system. Instead of leveling up you get motes of light. You exchange motes of light for gear. The gear gives you light points. The light points make your level raise. Simple, isn't it ?

4 RepliesNot really. The higher the level of the enemy compared to you the less damage you will do. There are enemies higher then 20. The way destiny has it's level set up is beautiful. 20 is the soft cap and when end game starts kicking in. It being a lower level then say WoW's 80 means people won't feel like it's a grind instantly. People could get to the top and be able to fully tweak their class and enjoy the standard content and PvP to the fullest. Levels past 20 are for those who wish for a challenge. Those who want more from destiny. Night falls and raids will have enemies stronger then level 20. So the motes of light help you buy items that contain the light stat to bring your damage on par with these stronger enemies. As we know enemies that are higher then us take less damage from us. So these extra levels are needed to see and do everything. This system pleases both sides.

motes of light are only for buying things from the speaker, you dont have to use them. if you play the game past level 20 you will get them weather you want them or not so its not something that you will want to try to farm for because by the time you have the gear to get to level 29 you will probably have enough to get something from the speaker. its not like the speaker sells anything that affects your stats, they are just vanity items.

Motes of light = currency to buy high level items. Light = a stat that effectively raises your level as you equip a piece of gear

ok? start up a new focus. When that one fills up, move on, start a new character and learn that playstyle. Level 20 is fine when you take into account the leveling of faction influence and weapons. If you think that it will limit the length of the game, then you're an idiot who doesn't understand just how many things you can make progress through and do other than get your level up. Or, would you like them to put in a Prestige system so you can keep leveling yourself, because that's all people seem to care about.
