When used as an insult or to describe something.
What about when used to define acting stupid with your friends? i.e. "Wow dude, that was so retarded! "

No! Are you retarded or something for asking!? :P
-
-
Not really. It is impossible for me to take you seriously if you use it, though.

Edited by Psy: 8/20/2014 3:34:46 AMNope and I find it annoying when people get all uppity over it. Calling someone a retard doesn't mean you think badly of the handicapped, at this point it's just another colourful insult to throw at stupid people. It's almost interchangeable with Stupid, Dumb, Idiot and Moron, at least two of which used to be used in the same clinical reference as retard is now. (Or close enough anyway) Trying to censor it and pick a new term only leads to the creation of a new insult, people are dicks and it's as simple as that. If you renamed and rebranded the medical terms for Retards and the Autistic then you'd end up with those new words being misappropriated as insults within a few years. English is a crude language, people who get offended by words in it must either have nothing better to do with their time, or shrektums made of sugarglass.

I'm not offended, but I can see why it is distasteful. In my book it's less vulgar than most other words to replace it.
-
-
Nope.
-
I'm not personally offended by it, but I find it distasteful.
-
You never go full retard

Edited by Nobody: 8/21/2014 5:00:13 AMWhen my friend had to call the fire department to get something taken out of a water bottle for him he was being retarded. When my other friend has trouble tying his shoes it's because he has down syndrome. If you call a disabled person a retard your an asshole. If you call a non-disabled person a retard you have done nothing wrong.

3 RepliesInsults are offensive by definition. Whether I personally take offense from the insult is dependent on who is saying it. Some random fuck on the Internet calls me retarded, I'm not going to care too much. My best friend calls me retarded, I'm gonna take it a bit personally. If you mean something like... Do I take offense from it in secondhand, like all these butthurt whiners who hate when people use the word "faggot" and "gay" to insult people, even if they're not gay? Personally, the more we disassociate the word "faggot" from homosexual culture, the better and more appropriate the insult will be. Why shouldn't it be a general term of abuse? Why aren't people just against insults period? Because people are idiots who don't know what they want.

Not offensive to me, but using the word as an insult implies that said person is feeble minded. Don't be feeble minded ladies and gents. Use your brain.
-
Not to me, but it doesn't make it acceptable to use in a way that would be considered offensive.
-
Naht rilly
-
I don't find it offensive, but I've recently noticed that I don't use the word anymore.
-
2 RepliesNo single word should be offensive to anyone

Edited by JayJ9Nine: 8/21/2014 5:44:05 AMLittle bit. It's a former medical term that if you use it as the original definition was used nowadays people gasp at you in surprise. If it's being used as an insult, I might be insulted. That's what insults do.
-
Nope.

What really boggles my mind is that when someone says something really offensive everybody goes crazy, It's on Facebook, Twitter, the news, even gaming forums. But when a child dies, or a group of men get executed, even if entire villages are destroyed you don't see it that much on Facebook, Twitter, and the news.
-
nope my teacher told me to exchange retarded with "mentally challenged" which sounds twice as bad.
-
Edited by Legend To None: 8/20/2014 9:47:47 PMNo far from offensive. I would say, "That guys an idiot."
-
I think that getting offended by a word is a sign that you should remove yourself from this world.
-
1 ReplyIt lost its offensiveness when everyone started saying it.
-
No because I'm not retarded.
