Race "species" perks...
Is anyone else a little bothered that there are not any race specific perks? It just seems like a wasted opportunity. Why leave it to be just cosmetic?
Edit: I am surprised by the lack of people who are upset by this. I think it may have to do with the fact that Bungie attempted to market a different audience by making a game that falls more on the COD side than on any real RPG elements.

No. Then we would have everyone picking that one race that specifically compliments that one specific class. Thus rendering Bungie's idea of "Everyone is different" completely null and void.

Bungie said they wanted this to be cosmetic because they didn't want everyone to have to feel like they needed to pick a race for the bonuses if they thought a different one fitted them better as far as story goes and I am personally glad they did this.

If there were more races and classes I would be, but with only 3 races or classes it would limit the character variation too much.

As someone else in here said, perks are for subclasses not races (if they were to add them in at all). With perks for each race you'd only see a race specific to a certain class. Basically one race would be geared more towards warlock, one towards titan, and one towards hunter. I think that's kind of lame. I enjoy seeing the variety in the tower

1 Replyhaving perks would incentivize people to favor one race over another , as opposed to going with what pleases them. subclass offer plenty of minor perks , so no , there is no "wasted" opportunity there . and people are not mad because most them understand what I imagine is eluding you currently, people value aesthetics in games like these , so when I choose my race I do so without having to feel like I regret making a ( insert your race here ) titian/hunter/warlock . and there's bungie's own words to consider ; we don't ever want to make you regret a decision you made with a character , or make you feel like you are missing out by going with one thing or the other . perks are for subclasses , not races

Perks imply potential advantage, and potential advantages will make this less about you creating the guardian you want to see from the options available and more and about whether or not you should voluntarily gimp yourself.

i think itd be kinda cool. but not huge difference, just starting differences. Like, if you wanted a certain perk boost but hated the look of the race, dont choose it. it wont affect much. anyways, yeah itd be nice. they have 3 classes, 6-9 subclasses, just add an extra class-like thing such as race boosters.. itd make an even more unique gameplay style for all people. But nah, its fine how it is, but a good suggestion.

3 RepliesI would like it if you was treated differntly by npcs and have a fraction for each race with the others for everyone but combat perks would make it unblanced and would lead to many forums saying humans need buff, exo needs debuff etc the only otherthing they could do is have events like human vs exo etc and human only event, exo only event [spoiler] i didnt mention awoken because they suck ;-) [/spoiler]

This can cause races to be pigeonholed into a specific class. Then you don't have variety which can make everyone feel the same.

No one on here is bothered by it, because a long while back (clearly longer than you've been on here), there was a HUGE discussion about this when it was first revealed that the races were just cosmetic. At first, I was on the side of wanting some unique perks for each race, but since that discussion I am more than content with it being cosmetic because then there is no real possibility of a Race/class build (again, we've all had this discuss, so any options you could add to table have already been added, like each race gives a different perk to the class... no) and forcing players to play a certain way in order to really enjoy the most out of the game.

Bothered? No... Upset? Really? Would it be cool? Sure, as long as for every race perk there was a downside.

instead of perks, anyone think there should be changes to gear based on race? I mean, we only see what each other look like at the tower. Something like a pattern or a symbol that reflects the back story to the races put on a piece of gear would be a way to add a slight difference without creating a bias based on stats

2 RepliesIf there was some sort of social race perks, like different dances, waves or jests, that would be great. Combat related racial perks will just enable imbalance unfortunately.

No. The classes are enough. If you add racial perks as well it will breed imbalance. Not only that but certain racial perks may work best with a certain class, which will leave uniqueness of characters will go out the window, i.e. Awoken may work best as Warlocks, Exos as Titans, and Humans as Hunters. Every one will be the same combination of race and class. Race is supposed to be more of an emotional choice than a strategic one.

I like that your choice is based on either aesthetics or how you want your character to fit into the story. Giving racial bonuses means people would decide based solely on character builds. If they were to implement a racial bonus I'd prefer it to be so subtle that it's not really a deciding factor. Just a tiny bonus to one skill.

Bonus could be something minor that dosent effeckt gameplay so much. Exo: change to get extra weapon parts when breaking items for glimmer. human: change to get extra spinmetall and other collectible things from world. awoken: +5% glimmer from evrything

It would actually cause us to have even less diversity than we have now, since there would always be one race that is the best for the class. And quickly people would avoid grouping with "lesser" builds. The old "An Elf Barbarian? GTFO of my raid!"

Not a bit, I think it's great people can pick their race without feeling like it's a wrong choice because of a stat point. It did bother me at first that class items don't have stats, but now I understand that the choice is meant for aesthetic purposes.

It sounds like a good idea but I'm against it because some people make a very good point of it not to be there, it limits what the player wants if I want to make a awoken titan but the awoken aren't exactly frontline types but I wanna be a titan and awoken...see the problem? And it upsets the balance of things, Exo since there war machines they could have better accuracy then that of say a human or awoken but have more defense because of there metallic structure, it just means if you want your badass awoken titan you have to sacrifice certain aspects to become a titan.

Nope don't want them. There is always either some races that have op racial perks or races with crappy perks. In Wow most of the horde had the best perks per race in both pve and pvp, while the alliance had only a few good perks for pvp. Then you have the devs who have to fix / tweak out some of the racial perks.
