Hi, I had a PS3 a long time ago, and have an Xbox360 now. I was just wondering if the setup is easy and quick, making my PSN ID, and all that, how long should I expect it to take?
Are there any peripherals/accessories that PS4 owners consider "must-haves?"
What's the best mic/headset for the PS4? Is the one it comes with any good?
I have heard that it's a good idea to have a 2nd controller to keep charging while you use the other one. With the 360 I have the plug and play so I don't have to worry about it, is there a plug and play kit for PS4? The controller charge cable seems super short, can any USB cord to mini USB plug in and keep it charged while playing, or is there a specific PS4 cord you need to have?
Are there any aftermarket controllers for PS4 that are like the Xbox ones? If so, are they any good? I have been playing Halo and other shooters on 360 for years and am worried about my ability to adjust to a new controller.
Any other tips for setting up a new PS4 to make it go smoothly and quickly would be much appreciated. I want to get on to Destiny as fast as possible :)
Thanks in advance :)

1 ReplyThe stock mic you get with the ps4 is awful, if I have it in my ear for over an hour, it physically hurts. I'm currently looking for a quality headset but wanted to save you the hassle.

As far as accessories go, i would highly suggest buying a bluetooth keyboard and the Sony Gold wireless headset seems to be a top notch headset that works with xbone, ps4, and PC. Otherwise the Turtle Beach SEVEN series headsets are good if you don't mind wired headsets. Don't get Triton

Since I'm sponsored by Astro I am obligated to say Astro headset.

1 ReplyYou might notice that Sony seemingly has little to no adspace. This is normal, do not panic. You're $60 is going to a service that doesn't also bombard you with the latest verizon product. When I got on PSN/ PS+, I nearly died of shock after years of XBL and gold.

1 ReplyNot that you really need another person giving you advice, but here's mine: PS4 is much better than xbox360 in my experienced opinion. For headsets the one in the box works in a pinch, but don't count on using for any extended length of time. I like my skullcandy plyr2. You can play and charge at once with the cord that comes with it. You don't have to have a second controller but it's nice to have. Enjoy :)

1 ReplyWhy Destiny?

2 RepliesGet any headset or headphones that work with a telephone as a mic. The stock ones are total trash Oh and just a tip, the dual shock 4 can be charged with some phone chargers or you can plug the stock cord into one of the USB/AC boxes that come with iPhone/android chargers

5 RepliesWhile I don't own a PS4 and haven't had to put up with the process of setting one up, I think you should be aware of some things before you take the plunge... — In my experience, the DualShock 4 can be an occasionally painful gamepad to use. I've found that games that require me to pull the right trigger multiple times for prolonged periods caused the muscles in my right hand between the knuckle of my index finger and the base of my thumb to cramp up. I don't know if this was because of the size of my hands or not, but it was definitely painful. Make sure you're comfortable with the controller before you purchase. — If/when you do purchase, don't get the console on the same day Destiny comes out. Get the console home a few days ahead of time and get your PlayStation Plus account up and running, download all the patches and firmware updates or whatever you'll undoubtedly have to have. Maybe, spend some time playing at least one other game so you're more familiar with the console and can just pop Destiny in and play it right away when the game comes out. — A few more things about the DS4: it feels like the DS3. The triggers and thumbsticks are radically improved, but the fact that it feels so similar to the previous design can make you sometimes want to press the right bumper when you want to pull the right trigger. Also, the area around the face buttons and the D-pad is VERY polished, and can sometimes reflect light up at you if you're not too careful. Just trying to help out! Good luck! :)

1 ReplyYou bought a console to play one game? lol.

4 Repliesreplace your DS4 thumbsticks with aftermarket aluminum ones you can get off Amazon. the rubber on the DS4 thumbsticks tends to wear badly after lots of play and the aluminum ones are great.

3 RepliesEdited by nao: 8/10/2014 10:55:37 PMSetup was really easy. Thing has only two cords. No power brick. Had no issues making an account. Menus and UI are simple to navigate. Just think long and hard about your PSN ID since there is currently no way to change it. (They've been working on it for a while) Couldn't tell ya on mic/headset. Have two controllers and a little charging stand I got as a gift. Definitely convenient for charging. Can't imagine going back to a 360 style controller after using the DS4 so much. My 360's stick layout annoys the crap out of me now. DS4 is much improved over DS3 when it comes to shooters. (May want to go into the settings and turn down the controller volume though since the defaut is full blast. Can be jarring if you don't expect it.) Setup for PSN is pretty easy I set mine up prior to getting my ps4. I haven't swapped out the hard drive yet, that's supposed to be easy to do as well. Everything has been pretty easy to do since I picked up mine. And I came from Xbox last gen. I will be picking up the Playstation golden headset later this week so I will be ready for Destiny come Sept

3 RepliesI suggest picking up a longer micro usb cable if you need it, and yes any micro usb cable will work.

3 RepliesIf you remember your old PS3 id you can just use that and get Playstation Plus

6 RepliesEdited by xurs cheeky bag: 8/10/2014 10:47:01 PMYou can make a PSN account now, so you don't have to spend time doing it on launch day. Just think long and hard about your ID, as there's (currently) no way to change it. Setup is incredibly easy. Plug it into the wall, then plug it into your TV. After that you;ll probably have to download a firmware update but that's it. The mic included with the PS4 is aight, but there are much better ones out there. If you're willing to drop the cash, I'd go with Sony Gold's or Pulse Elites. The DS4 can be charged with any micro-USB cord. Unless your gaming sessions last longer than 7 hours, there's no need to have a back-up controller. Plus, you can just plug the micro-USB cord into an old iPhone charger block and charge from almost anywhere. There's no need for a charging kit. As someone who played primarily on 360 last-gen (when I was using a console), adapting to the DS4 took almost no time at all.
