Destiny in 720p

So I know the full version of destiny will be in 1080p, 30fps. I currently have a 51" 720p 120hz Samsung led tv. My question is the following. Do y'all think getting a new tv will be necessary to enjoy the destiny to the fullest?

  • I'm a little disappointed it's not running at 60fps. I'd take the game at 720p if it ran at 60fps

  • Probably not. It depends a lot on screen size and viewing distance.

  • It's not really a big deal man. Go to best buy or something and look at 720p and 1080p broadcasting the same signal next to each other. If you do decide to upgrade you might as well go bigger lol.

  • Destiny will be run at 1080p, but your system will scale it down to 720p. I have a 32 inch Philipps 720p 60hz and a Samsung 40 inch 1080p 120hz tvs that my bud and I played on during our lan party. I will say this, Destiny looks ridiculously good on the 720p TV, but the native PS4 boot system looked choppy. I suggest wait till the game comes out, play it and save money for a better TV when you ready. You will appreciate the game even more when you upgrade. See you Star Side.

  • Yes, that huge tv will make it extremely noticeable. I personally can't stand playing on a huge tv, I'd recommend getting a monitor for gaming (if you're playing alone) but if that's not your thing then just getting a 1080p tv should do it.

  • Yes and especially given as you have a fairly large tv, the difference will be easily noticeable.

    • I would get a new television myself, but that's because I like watching things in all their shiny glory. Seeing or playing something in 1080p is much better. I have a 1080p/24 television for all my gaming needs and my partner just got a nice shiny new television for herself for Destiny. My television is older than her's and there is a huge quality difference and they both produce the same scale of picture. New tech will always be better I guess.

      • I'm pretty sure it would look worse if Destiny was running at 720p on a 1080p TV than 1080P on a 720P TV, since the image would be downscaled not upscaled, but I'm not a professional.

        • "...to the fullest?" Yes. As was recommend, go look at the TVs side by side. There's quite a difference.

          • HD is HD. Unless you're sitting <5 feet from your tv I find it hard to believe you can tell the difference. Who here can see the difference between 1080 and 720 at 12+ feet? Do you think every "HD" channel your tv provider sends you is 1080? Ha! I work for a cable company and the difference is negligible. You'll be fine imo. The console will make a much bigger difference. I'd invest in a ps4/xbone before a new tv.

            • I don't think it's a big deal. Just upgrade when you can't, the difference will be negligible.

            • I've been browsing the intertoobz for a new TV ever since the beta ended. My TV is my first HD TV and is sort of a relic. It still functions, but it suffers from image retention, old tech. I can easily play Destiny without hindrance on my current TV and wait til Black Friday, or I can pick up this 51" Samsung I just spotted @ BestBuy.com for a reasonable price. Decisions, decisions.
