Motion Tracker needs to be removed in Crucible.

OK hear me out, yes, i know that crucible isn't supposed to be hardcore or anything, but it takes any skill out of paying attention to your surroundings when all you have to do is sit in a dark corner with a shotgun and wait for someone to pass. This is especially a blantantly OP feature in the Iron Banner, where you have to play competitively to win, and the tracker isn't skillful, it's one of the few things that i think are OP in pvp. It should only reveal your position if you shoot, end of discussion, and if we can't remove this feature, at least nerf it to where you're position is revealed if you sprint. What are your guy's thoughts? Edit: Thanks for your feedback, I appreciate you guys being civil with me, i give respect back when its given :D Edit 2: Thanks to all who have posted on my forum, i just posted this to get a random opinion of mine out there and didn't expect it to get much attention, at least positive civil-minded people to do so. Thanks for your valid points as well, even if i dont agree with some of them, they are just important as mine. Hope for more positive feedback. Thanks for making me feel important. :D Edit 3: I think i just had a good idea, add a spotting system in pvp, you could use the point emote to spot them and they would be marked, i sayyyyy around 7 seconds. Also it would give the emotes more of a purpose other than for taunts. What you guys think? Edit 4: Wow guys, I'm impressed. We got 180 comments (including my replies), and my post ended up near the top of trending, I appreciate your guys positive responses and civil counterarguments. THANKS ALOT! Final Edit: Thank you guys for all the attention on this forum, 270 comments including my replies. Couldn't make a guy feel more important in this community if you tried. My new forum is My Two Main Gripes With Destiny. It's in the destiny section. Thank you for all the posts, but I'm moving on to a new topic, join me if you wish. See you there! Or... See you Starside my Fellow Guardians.

I'm fine with the radar. Everyone gets it, learn to use it and visually check your corners and usual camp spots. My main worry is the hunter/blade dancer and its crouch to go invisible along with it's super ability. Pair that up with the right guns and thats OP. I haven't seen gameplay of blade dancer, but it is sure to get anoying real quick. Especially if while invisible they dont show up on radar... I hope they do.

        • If you are camping in a corner with a shotgun, you too are on the tracker. It's balanced at least.

          • Some sort of tracking is needed, and I think this is a BIG nerf compared to the old Halo radar which was spot on, not just a general direction. Also, there may very well be modes or gametypes with no radar. We'll jut have to wait and see.

As many have stated, it's not a motion tracker. Crouching gets you off radar, even while moving. There will also be abilities in the game that will let you stealth off radar. It's pretty necessary to let you read a situation before diving head-first into it. Namely I've found it useful for people floating above you or if you're unsure about how a firefight went in the room in front of you.

          • It would be nice if this was an option for a certain mode. We have seen multiple modes like Control, Skirmish, Rumble etc (only Control was playable in beta). Or maybe faction specific. Let's says Dead Orbit hosts a day of Matches and all battles that day (if you select Dead Orbit) will be without radar. This could be similar to Iron Banner so you can play Crucible regular or Iron banner mode. So that day you could select regular or no radar. I've thought about this with lots of different types: normal , no radar, no supers, no grenades, no heavy ammo drops etc. however it may be too late in the development to add. I'll be sucked into this game no matter what and I'm sure I'll play every mode I can so I'm not too concerned and will just be happy to play.

            • The only thing it does is limit the effectiveness of corner camping. So how is it a bad thing? The only people that would benefit from proximity radar being gone would be campers.

              • It's not a motion tracker, but I wouldn't be surprised if bungie allow crucible customisation under certain circumstances, much like they did in halo multiplayer

I completely disagree about trackers not being skillful, with a particular caveat. So I do agree that tracking can be unskillful if implemented a particular way. So, for instance, in COD, UAVs put individuals on one team's radar, while the other team has no recourse. Certain CODs had ways you could keep yourself off the radar even with a UAV, but in general, one team could see the whole other team, while the other team may not be able to see them. That felt cheap. However, I've been playing Halo since CE, and I have loved the radar in that. Thinking particularly of a map like Ivory Tower in H2, radar became extremely skillful. So like COD, using your radar does take some skill to use, as it requires a particular awareness, as well as a knowledge of the maps to be able to respond. This is even more the case in Halo because it had a lot more verticality to be aware of. However, Halo goes beyond this in that you can choose to take yourself off the radar by not moving, or by crouch walking. So on Ivory Tower, one team usually controlled top elevator/sniper. It was a very defensible position. But if you crouched to the elevator at the bottom, you could assassinate them almost every time, particularly if your teammates distracted from the other entrances. Now Destiny's radar is a lot more like Halo's radar. And while I do have some issues with the competitiveness of Destiny, the radar isn't one. In fact, while it uses the same sort of system as Halo, it actually makes it more difficult to use the radar as it only provides you with the direction of an enemy, not a more exact positioning of direction. It also promotes teamwork by not showing individual blips. So traveling with a companion will be to your advantage. And you can still take yourself off for the most part by crouching. This may seem cheap to twitch shooters, but in my opinion, that's because they lack an understanding of what this type of game revolves around. The radar alone makes the game more of a tactical shooter in the sense that you have to think about the location you're entering, the possibility of someone being there, callouts of your team, radar blips, etc. But the health in this game requires a more tactical approach even more. Anyone who has played Halo knows that when you play a game with extended health and shield regeneration, team firing is vital to winning. That means you need to be aware of your surroundings, ensure you travel with teammates, and understand your position and the enemy position so those you're with have lines of sight on your enemies, preferably from different angles so it's harder for your enemies to give you multikills. Destiny, like Halo, is not a twitch shooter like most other popular FPS games have been. You have to think and work as a team, and class distinctions at higher levels will make this even more true. I think people who dismiss radar are looking at radar as a cheap tool that lets casuals know they're coming. Well, don't go on the radar, increase your odds by choosing your battles and running with teammates, use your teammates that are showing up on enemy radar to your advantage like my Ivory Tower example, etc. Radar is part of your toolbox, so be tactical.

                • You do realize you can sit a corner with a shotgun and wait for someone to walk by without a motion tracker too, right? And the tracker blinks when you stand still, just a little slower, so if you don't rush the objective and play slow then you can strategically pinpoint where the camper pitched tent. The radar is a good tool that you need to get used to and learn to use. It is your greatest enemy but also your strongest ally.

                • I think it's fine the way it is. Think of it as halos motion tracker, but it just gives you a general direction rather than a specific location.

                • Me personally I don't know what you hate so much about the radar as is but I think it's perfect for this play style. If you do encounter a camper most the time throwing a grenade works and now you know exactly where they are. Spotting would be like saying hey let's super this guy since we know exactly where he is... And then if you didn't have the current radar would have no idea about your impending doom. So I feel that would be a horrible idea.

                • Radar is fine. It works the same for everyone and makes it more difficulty for people to camp and give an attacker a chance to walk through a door knowing what's on the other side.

                • Personally I don't like the CoD-style radars. I hate that people can come from behind and kill me without me being given the chance to do anything about it. It's the most frustrating thing to me. It doesn't take any skill to come up behind someone. It basically just comes down to being lucky because you just happen to find someone with their back turned to you. Personal preferences aside, I don't think a CoD-style radar would go over very well in Destiny. Imagine a Titan or a Warlock spawning and happening to see 3-4 people run to a capture point. All they need to do is walk around the corner and use their super and they'd kill them all because there was no radar to let the 3-4 people know he was coming. The 3-4 people would have no time to react because by the time they all saw him they'd be dead.

                • As basically said already by fifthderelicte the general reason in favour of change is that the majority of players are not used the this halo style radar and on first glance it seems rather cheap. The majority here, I imagine, are more familiar with the Call of Duty system where the player only shows up when shooting. I think all the issues with the current radar will become void by Christmas; this is because by then most with have learned how to exploit the radar just like what the Halo players learned to do over 10 year ago. It can be exploited in so many way such as crouch walking, making use of verticle play, funneling players into a hidden team-mate in waiting and my favourite simply overwhelming an enemy with multiple indicators from multiple angles coming at once. Most player panic resulting in a death for them because they don't know what to do.

                    • Well the basis for them to add the tracker is to reward teamwork which is what bungie is promoting, if your running around by yourself you are easier to spot, but if you work as a team with at least one other teammate then that tracker works to your advantage. For example on the moon map to take point a a person can climb the dome and snipe while he/she is up there while another person can come in. The first guy on the dome shows up as a pulsing circle all around on the defender's tracker confusing them while the second guy comes in. Only a small example of how the tracker works to promote teamwork which again is what bungie is going for. As you can see most of the crucible modes were all team based, 3 on 3 to 6 on 6, no death matches.

I agree, to an extent. I believe it should only reveal enemies when you shoot, jump, run/sprint, not just shooting and sprinting. Similar to the motion sensor in Halo, but not revealing your exact location, kinda like how it is now. Though, I still do find it odd that crouching or sitting still alerts enemies. I'm aware, it reduces camping, but it also eliminates stealth. Good post.

                        • There has always been a motion sensor in Halo, and that worked great in my opinion.. It works both ways. A silent approach is possible but it takes more time. And as for people camping in corners with a shotgun *sigh*.. It's annoying, but they really don't gain much by doing it. I think there are plenty of ways avoid a close encounter with a shotgun-camper. Also... I really haven't seen many campers at all if I'm honest. If I could change anything about the motion sensor, it would be the colour. I'm having trouble seeing it well against the background sometimes, since it's kind of transparent. Might just be me though.

                          • Nah at the least the tracker should be moved to somewhere less awful. It should be just above the melee/grenade recharge bars so that all important information is centralized to the bottom half of the screen instead of all over the place. I don't have any research backing this up but I feel that scanning down to up is faster than up to down.
