I paid $60 I deserve to have access to the entire game

Getting a lot of whiners (I know, what's new) about the MM. And one thing I keep hearing is "Why should I be restricted from part of the game, I have a job, wife, family, school whatever, so it should be changed to ensure I can play. After all I paid just as much as you. Yet none of those people stop to think about the players these raids are designed for. And Bungie has been pretty vocal about wanting to have something for every type of gamer. Creating activities for every mood, or every type of gamer, means not everyone is going to like or be able to do every activity. If you're not the type of person that can schedule a time with 5 other people to tackle the hardest co-op experience in the game, then raids weren't designed for you. And it's extremely selfish and entitled of you to say that the raid Bungie designed for those players should cater to your play style. Want MM co-op dungeion, there will be probably 20 times as many strikes designed just for you than there will be raids designed for raiders. Want PVP, well Bungie has you covered as well. Want story, either lone wolf or co-op, covered. Want to explore every nook and cranny of the different worlds, covered. Between strikes, PVP, nighfall events and other limited time activities that Bungie will be providing, the 1 raid is probably like 5% of the available endgame activities. Someone only interested in PVE and skipping out on PVP is going to be missing much more of the game that someone that isn't able to raid. And since powerful exotics can be obtained in every activity, you aren't going to be out gunned by someone that can raid. TL:DR Creating activities for every mood, or every type of gamer, means not everyone is going to like or be able to do every activity. There's still an abundance of activities designed for you.

  • Not that I want MM for raids, but how would it's inclusion impact people that will play it with a group?
It won't.
• Bungie already gave several ways to meet new people like here on Bungie.net you have forums, also the various clans on here as we'll if people know how to plan things out it might make life easier in Destiny.

  • If I went through a raid to get an exotic only to find out that some casual got the same weapon due to them not wanting to be left out I'd be really pissed.

    • A whole $60! I'm paying £150 for the ghost edition. In the UK we're being shafted HARD for the ghost edition. $150 is nowhere near £150. American buyers are getting the ghost edition at a steal! Anyway, raids.. yes, I want raids! Yes, I want MM. No, I don't want it nerfed. No, I don't work hours that mean I can play with friends or a clan (A US based clan maybe, but who REALLY wants to be the brit in a US clan?). So if there's content that I feel I'm being excluded from (I want raids, yes?) then why can't you understand that others feel the same? I WANT to play the end game content, the toughest content! Otherwise what am I working towards? Honestly, I'm considering cancelling my pre-order, not because of the decision regarding no MM but because it's split the community! I'm officially done..

      • the thing is that all the content in this game is accessible. just some are too lazy to make friends by the time they will be able to even attempt the raid.
Well 80% of the players aren't interest in PvP, they are interested in the PvE. Just look at polls. Strikes and Nightfall events are clearly not end game content. They are the repetitive means to the "LOOT", which Bungie focuses on so much in talking about the game to GET to the end game content. If you looked in the beta in the Vanguard shops; strikes, exploring and bounties are the ways to obtain the Vanguard gear. That is not end game material. Nightfall sounds just like a harder variant of strikes. So far, the purpose for the LOOT as described by Bungie is to use for the RAID. So after all the grinding you do and you get the powerful exotics, which is how Bungie has designed this game, the majority of players have nothing to use them for except in the RAID. Bungie clearly needs to fix this or I suspect may people will be dumping this game.

These are the people who don't realize that once you get your group, you're probably going to sit around for a good 20-30 minutes before each encounter just breaking it down. The inability to speak with your teammates, and the Lone Wolf Syndrome that's prevalent in FPS games now are both 2 very simple factors that will prevent you from being able to complete the hardest content. One player's failure is enough to wipe the raid in this sort of thing, and if you aren't willing to go out and look for competent players who are willing to take not only the TIME, but put in a legitimate team effort, then you shouldn't be complaining. Matchmaking is pointless to argue about -- even if you get a group of 6 people together through something like that, you'd just get randoms and undergeared LWS-Randies who can't sit still long enough to listen to an explanation. The fact is with these things, if you don't work together you're going to fail.

I think the problem is that the people who want match making are people who think this game will be like CoD or BF, and to some extent this is a fault of Bungies marketing. There needed to be a strong emphasis from the beginning on the games need for dedication and co-op play so that people can say "Hey, you know what, I like the look of this" with all the info at hand. I know its not WoW or any where as involved as a typical MMO (I know its not an MMO) but it DOES have things about it that ARE the same and one of those things is the end game goals, Group Raids and GEAR farming. etc and I think a good portion of people didn't realise this. Anyhow, I am all for no matchmaking as I want to fight alongside like minded guardians! See you on the 9/9/14

              • Use it to your advantage ... play the game, then return it for a full refund based on undisclosed conditions of use. - You still get to play the parts you like, - Get your money back to spend on another game, - Within your rights and most game store kids are not gong to care. Face it , bungie is not going to listen to your sole voice so why not play them at their own game?

                • How would enabling matchmaking for raids ruin the mood of the activity itself? Honestly, how would it effect your experience at all? You'll have your clan fireteam raiding in it's own instance of the Vault of Glass. It would literally change nothing about raids except making them more widely available to people without a large group of friends that play Destiny. It's a paper-thin argument that smacks of elitism for everyone so staunchly defending it.

                    • People are also forgetting there is only 1 raid at launch. They aren't missing much. And if you really want to do it no matter what hours you work, you can make time and get a team together here. No Excuses.

                      • Games these days are usually made for the wide "dumb/lazy/noobish" -masses. Everyone can play it -> more people will buy it -> more profit! The only people complaining are the "hardcore-gamers", because games are too easy/simple. Let's hope that Bungie won't make Destiny a "mainstream-COD/BF" -experience. BTW: Welcome to the present time, with games for everyone!

                          • Well people just don't want to be left out. You are covering every aspect except the part that matters. The part I am writing about is the psychological aspect. People are so afraid these days of being that one guy or gal left on the side lines not picked by either team. It is sad but hopefully this will not happen. I hope Lukems didn't over hype the raid. Possibly to create this panic of not completing the raid or in some people's case, not being able to try the raid.

The problem with no raid matchmaking is that it can be difficult to coordinate 5 other people. You have to remember that there is no chat with anyone in the game unless you or another person in your party sends out an invite. You can't communicate with random players you meet in the Crucible, you can't talk to random players while you are in the Tower, and you can't communicate with players while you are exploring. The only way to talk to anyone is by inviting them to your party, and honestly, why would you run around and then invite someone to your fire team if you've never been able to determine if they aren't an idiotic child beforehand? The answer is that you wouldn't. So, not having Raid matchmaking is a terrible idea when it is combined with the lack of chat to other people. Raid Matchmaking is not needed if they only added the simple ability of being able to communicate with random players so you can coordinate a good team.
