It's sad that the one thing I still enjoyed about console games versus PC games seems to be a thing of the past. Now games and people playing games on consoles are joining the elitist groups that take gaming too seriously. I can't believe in a video game I read people talking about dedication and hard work and organization outside the game....this seriousness and intolerance makes me miss my offline SNES. Online gaming brought us good things, drop in drop out coop, bigger worlds to explore but has in life it's flawed because it's filled with people. Then there came social media and somehow games are becoming a part of it. Need a group, go on forums, need a map, here is an app. I miss having self contained games I could enjoy without people that forget it's just gaming, it's meant for fun, not self validation or social challenges. I miss the time when gamers were considered geeks, now gamers are bullies, it makes me sad.

  • I agree it's a hobby or a career for gamers but things got too serious at some point.

  • Thank you for still remembering and carrying the torch. That light isn't snuffed out yet. :-)

  • What are you saying? You think offline gaming didn't have people that took it seriously? Have you heard the term metagaming? Or people who hold world records for games like Pac-man or Donkey kong? Those who striped down the game just to see how it ticks? These people take it seriously because that's how they have fun. Obviously not your cup of tea, but for them it is. I see that online gaming has made you more aware and/or reminds you of the existence of these people. And somehow just because there's like one game mode that would appease them in Destiny and not the majority of players you refer to them as elitists and bullies... Really? Do you know how many games support casual play compared to hardcore? Who's really the bully when majority rules?

  • Like is too weak a word for how I feel about this. Keep in mind that with a lot of these "bully" gamers it is the ONLY way for them to validate themselves. Being online amplifies what they are like offline because they never have to worry about getting punished for their dickish behavior. They generally excel at one thing, video games, and feel they need to be praised for that. When they don't get said praise, they slam anyone that doesn't agree with them (which is pretty much everyone). I feel sorry for them in a way because when the data cloud eventually gets deleted they will really have nothing tangible to show for life of toil and strife becoming the greatest gamer in history.

  • I couldn't agree more , people are treating this game like a full fledged MMO , and all the shitty personalities and behaviors MMO's bring with them . plan to avoid such people who act this serious , in this way im thankful for no matchmaking . its crazy how much frenzy the announcement of raids has caused , people are preparing themselves for something that wont happen until at least a another month or more after destiny launches . I intend to play the game through and do as much stuff as possible , and when I feel me and my clan are ready , we'll do raids , but im not about to plan my entire experience around them like they are my reason for living/playing.

I'm from the offline gaming days, i remember it being something we did we no one was available to play outside, or if it was too damn hot for us to be outside as kids (110 degrees here in Texas some days in summer) it wasn't a social validation, quite the opposite.
