Should I invest in a decent headset and mic?

So obviously communication is key when playing these kind of games, otherwise it can lead to a lot of frustration. I currently have the basic headset/mic that came with my XB1, I haven't actually used it up to this point, so what I'm wondering is if it's actually any good, and if not what is a good (not too expensive) alternative?

Best headset for Xbox 1 that isn't gonna break the bank is the trittons Kama headset. They better then the ps4 version because the ps4 version doesn't have a chat/game volume mixer. Where as the Xbox 1 does version does. They are comfortable in long gaming sessions an have real good audio. Party chat is crystal clear with them on both ends. They don't have a removable Mic but your only gonna get that feature if you spend upwards of 100$. But if your using them for gaming then no point in needing a removable mic. An besides the mic on the Kama's is very bendable. You can bend it in any direction. They only 55$ New online an at GameStop. A lot better on the wallet then 150+ an they get the job done just as good. http://www.gamestop.com/accessories/kama-stereo-headset/115651

  • The adapter is 25 bucks, you can always buy a top of the line 360 headset for cheap and pick one of the adapters up

I'd say yes and no. If you are on a budget just your regular mic will be fine all you need to do is communicate. If you trust your tv speakers or have a stereo system for your tv you don't need one. However. If you are willing to pay the triple digit price tag definitely . And ,I'm a bit biased because I own a pair, I'd suggest turtle beach. Good quality products and with the xbox one adapter I can guarantee you will be able to immerse your self. As far as double digit prices for headset I'm unsure of but I know you want to avoid mad cats.

Just read about the Turtle Beach Stealth 500X for XB1 coming out in late October, and it sounds exactly like what I've been looking for (and for a decent $230 instead of $300+). DTS 7.1 surround, completely wireless (I believe the wireless receiver plugs into optical), with chat & mic monitoring, designed specifically for the XB1. Seems pretty great and feature-packed to me, but maybe there are drawbacks. Going to wait for reviews then probably this up. • I got a monitor for my xbox a while ago and had to get a headset because no speakers work with it. Right now I have the XO7's, and I absolutely love them. They add a ton of depth to the game, and I think they were a great investment.

    • I have an Astro A50. There is nothing worse then trying to understand someone that sounds like they're in a wind tunnel or under water. I was always that guy it seemed and finally broke down and bought a nice headset. Of course, you are asking for a not too expensive alternative and Astro headset are as expensive as they come. I would recommend any Turtlebeach headsets as a more price conscience alternative. I have a Turtlebeach XOFour as a backup (because they were free with my XBox One) and they also work nicely. I've had no complaints about my mic clarity to others when using them.

        • I, too, have been thinking of getting a nice headset/mic for XB1 to play with Destiny, but I've never gone down this road for consoles/PC. Are there any true 5.1/7.1/surround headsets for use with the XB1? Or are they all simulated? My amateur understanding is that the XB1 does not offer this through the stereo headset adapter. Any surround headsets used would be virtual/simulated surround sound from the stereo source. Is that correct? And is there a way to hook up a true surround headset through optical audio out? Or am I making that up?

          • I bought the XO Seven's on Ebay for $70 cheaper than retail, and I love them. I think they aren't essential to have, but it heightens the experience immensely.

            • It does the job, much better than using the Kinect. Just need to remember to change your settings. the default is to have voices come through the TV rather than the Mic. If you have the money, get the Turtle Beach. If not, the one that came with the one will work just fine...

              • I used to be happy with the basic one that came with the XB1. I say 'happy', I just didn't know any better. I decided to look at headers because the volume I wanted the TV at wasn't the volume others would appreciate. I settled on the Turtlebeach XO Seven and I haven't looked back. I use it all the time, not just for gaming. The sound quality is excellent. It's not Bluetooth but that doesn't bother me. Happy hunting!
