Are Hunters the superior class?

Seriously, if you look at destinytracker.com the top 50 on the leaderboards for both xbox and ps are majority hunter. What advantages does the hunter have, its too overwhelming of a discrepancy to be random coincidence on the leaderboards. I didnt play near enough matchmaking to get a feel for the classes and I only roled one class (warlock) for a relatively limited time compared to most other beta testers. What gives?

  • There are no superior classes in destiny. There are only different play styles depending on which class you choose. If you are a hunter or a warlock, of course you aren't going to go into an enemy controlled flag guns blazing. The hunter is going to try to pick them off with either a sniper or scout rifle and his golden gun ability, while the warlock is just going to AoE the crap out of it, hoping to clear the flag for the titan to charge in (with a shotgun most likely) and punch everything to death and capture the flag. It just depends on your play style to decide which class you would be best at. Most people just care too much about their K/D ratio and prefer to sit back out of the action and pick people off. Of course, I'm only referring to a majority of the hunter/warlock population when I say this. I have seen some fearless hunters and warlocks charge a flag with an assault rifle and live to tell the tale.

  • To be honest I think if you can master your class and know how to use it effectively then you can do well in PvP no matter what classes you are up against. I also think the best class for PvP may not be the best class for PvE.

    • Hunters are my favorite because it is more challenging then either titan or warlock. Titan is hulk smash warlock is a walking artillery strike. Hunter takes thought and patience and skill to use

    • I found the other classes lacking without a throwing knife. When you get in that awkward fight where you're both reloading at mid range, throwing knives are money.

      • No, it's just that 99.99% of people play as a hunter.

      • I believe it comes down to the fact you have to be a more skilled player to play a hunter effective.

        • I think all the classes should be even, maybe the most skilled players just mainly chose hunters.

          • It's most likely better players in general not because they're hunters. If you took the worst player ever and they played as the hunter there would be no difference from them playing as a Titan or a warlock

            • In pure pvp, Hunters can have a guaranteed one shot kill with their throwing knife, whereas, even a fully charged titan punch doesn't seem to do the trick in one hit. Also, if you get the right skill set up, you can have a near instantaneous reload speed, along with a super that can be used over a period of time, not having to expend it all in 2 seconds. They also carry some good grenades for PvP. However, I do believe that Datto did a class breakdown a while back, and it showed that hunters were technically the weakest in his analysis, though whether pvp, pve, or both, I cant remember. Another big factor is what armor abilities and weapon skills they have on their gear itself. An instant reload on an Assault rifle, while carrying more ammo for it as well, can make a massive difference.

              • Maybe its better for low levels until the other subclasses are unlocked. I'm dying to see how well the defender subclass pans out in PvP. Deej already stated, possibly jokingly, if he felt like a class or object was op he would basically Nerf the shit out of it lol. Personally I don't like nerfing period. Makes it more of a challenge.

              • I would say in PvP, most defiantly, they have the perfect blend of Toughness and Agility, good abilities and the throwing knife. But in PvE, no.
