Raids, Don't Give In Bungie!

So I've been reading a whole lot of articles about why not having matchmaking for raids is a bad thing and I just can't agree, here's why. Bungie has stated they don't want this to be content people can just throw themselves at over and over again until some form of success slowly begins to occur (put that in my own words though, not Bungies). They want this to be content that takes effort to organize, if you can organize a team of people to play at the same time you gain a CHANCE at having the organization it'll take to beat this content. This content is not for every player, I'm sorry everyone feels entitled to ever bit of content that comes with a game but that's not how it works in reality, sorry. Yes you paid for the game, and they are giving you access to the content, the same level of access they are giving EVERYONE else. Whether or not you as a player have the time or patience to access that content the way they set it up is on you. If everyone where able to access this content whenever they want the next series of complaints you'd hear flooding from everywhere is likely how the content is too hard, and how can they expect a group of 6 strangers to work together at such a high level of play and beat this content. Also, Bungie has provided us tools to group together and find players for this content. If you plan to raid then you clearly have an internet connection, hell it's required for the game last I checked. So don't tell me you can't hop on the internet for a few minutes and post on the forums, join a group / clan or something to find the players you need to access this content. Don't be lazy and expect the world to be given to you, if Bungie adopted this lazy attitude of self entitlement they wouldn't be making the great games they do, and they'd be giving us trash like many other developers do, but they aren't. So you can't be either, and if you are, you don't deserve to access the content, it's not meant for you, no matter how that makes you feel on the inside, it's true, deal with it. That is all. Thanks for the great game Bungie, I really hope you don't back down to all the heat your getting about this. Just think how much heat the Demon's Souls / Dark Souls series got for being so hard and now it's a cult classic. You already have the fan base, the people complaining over this will still buy the game, and they aren't the people that'll be around months, years from now anyways, so don't make the game about them. Do what you knows best, I'm sure you will.

  • This is one of those moments where Bungie really shouldn't listen to their community. No matchmaking in raids Bungie. Some people might rage but they're still going to buy the game.

  • I like the idea of no matchmaking. It gives a reason for people to become more social, make friends, meet new people. And if you already have your group together, it's just the closer you will become! When you're thrown into a random, match made game, you probably aren't gonna want to talk to anyone. If you're going into the raid with that attitude as well, you're not gonna get jack-s*** done. It's all about team work for these raids. If you're going in not wanting to communicate and with a group of strangers you have absolutly no background info on, you're set for failure. That's my opinion. It's not wrong nor is it right. It's an opinion is all.

    • How would having MM harm you? I couldn't care less if we have it or not, I will be raiding with my clan, as I assume you will be, so whats your problem?

Bungies own words on that were at the end of the day everybody is going to shoot things. I agree about the coordination and persistence that something like this is going to take, but I agree with the light requirements comment. It would be fairly easy imo to add requirements. Not everyone enjoys socializing with people. Some people have moved over from single player only games to this game because of how awesome it looked and played. Me personally my ps4 is a family entertainment option. I don't want someone sending a stupid message to my psn id just because I wanted to raid with them and I had to add a bunch of new people. All of my friends own xboxes so raiding with them is impossible. While I'm probably at the extreme loner end of the debate, that's my opinion.

If you can't make 5 friends by the time you're geared up to do raids, you're playing the game wrong. I agree completely.

+1 Internet. Fully back you here OP. Except you got it wrong.... This content is open for EVERYONE to try. They just have to put the effort into making 5 friends. It's not impossible. The raid on the other hand pretty much is without comms and a plan of attack.

            • I do not want a chat window, I do not want a LFG message, I do not want matchmaking for raids and ninja players, I do not want an auction house, I do not want credit framers spamming, I do want this game as Bungie have single handily given us a persistent world we can adventure in alone or form a fire team without all the above crap. I'm a pc gamer with no console friends to form a fire team and I will just have to make friends if I want to take part in nightfall raids etc. I accept this as a small price to miss the normal mmo raids by numbers crap. Thank you Bungie....looking forward to September 9th like a big bloody kid lol.

                • No matchmaking, please! This is how Bungie wants to do it so just go with it, it might be a nice feature, and if not they will fix it.

                • I feel like everyone who doesnt want matchmaking is just kissing bungies ass and is scared to have anyone criticize their work. The whole point is to let bungie know what we want, and if so many people want matchmaking, why not just give it to them. Bungie is a great company but that doesn't mean theyre perfect... Why not show them that a lot of people really want matchmaking? Putting matchmaking in the game makes people like me, whod rather just play the game regardless of difficulty, happy because i dont have to spend so much time and effort just to get a chance at beating the raid.

                  • It's called paraphrasing... And Bungie did not prepare adequate resources to group up in game, I could use a forum but why should I be forced to go outside the game and fill up my friend list with strangers just to raid? Don't be a fanboy and defend a clear oversight by Bungie.

                    • @MrDominoX Amen to that! Great post, and well said - Nice to see there are a few more of us who can see the light and actually know what Raiding will entail :D Raids are meant to be hard to beat, epic challenges that require team work, preparation, proper gear and dedication (and effort!!) to beat - They require players to be at the top of their game, all working (well) together, all communicating properly, and all listening to a Raid/Fireteam leader coordinating their attacks/positions. RAIDS ARE NOT SOLO EVENTS! If you want to play solo, there is plenty of stuff to do in this game, but Raiding won't be one of them - You want to Raid, you get a team together and you get geared up and go in together. If people seriously think they can even go into the Raid with a bunch of randoms, with no guarantee of their gear, no guarantee of skill, and limited communication (i.e. people speaking different languages, people with no mikes, people with no headsets in general etc.) then they are seriously mistaken, and also rather naive. Trying to Raid via matchmaking (especially seeing as there is no minimum gear requirements) will be an exercise in frustration, and the very same people whining to have Match Making now, will be the very same people that will swarm back to these forums demanding that the Raids are nerfed because they, and their 5 random morons who can barely point their rifles in the right direction, and who wanted to pop into a Raid to 'try it out', can't figure things out, and they keep getting killed (see Interceptor and Devil Walker for recent examples of exactly this sort of thing happening) And before any of those particularly nasty individuals start expressing how much of a 'life' they have which i don't: I am happily married (to a gamer wife), i have a very successful career and i have my own place - So now we've got that out of the way; tell me more about how you want all the best content and rewards, without putting in the effort to get people to do it together ;) Love and hugs all!

                          • Exacto. Plus, you wont be able to do any Raids before you hit level 20, so it'll take a few days/weeks before the first Raids can be done..

                          • I think we have a fairly good discussion going here. I for one, don't care how they finally roll it out. But why not have it as they planned, and if it flops, then they call roll out an update with the matchmaking ability? At least this way they can say... hey we tried and it failed.... or who knows, maybe it'll be a huge success.

                            •
“This content is not for every player, I'm sorry everyone feels entitled to ever bit of content that comes with a game but that's not how it works in reality, sorry.”
Sorry, but if I pay for a game then the full content within that game should be accessible to me. If not then the developer should put a warning on the case saying that a portion of the content requires a party of 6 to play. I understand that these raids are going to be hard and not everyone has the required time to complete them, though fortunately there are save-points scattered throughout so you can make progress without having to sit down for one massive 7 hour play-session which would be a pain. Though I’m still internally debating with myself how feasible it will be to get 5 of my friends together to play at the same time and to have us all sit down for an extended period without anyone having to be dragged away for whatever reason. The Xbox 360 is limited to 100 friends and at the moment I think I have about 80 (not sure) and I’m ashamed to say that I met nearly all of those friends on COD. What’s interesting though, is that despite all of them being avid COD players, due to different schedules, time-zones, and interests it is challenging for me to get a party of 3 together at the same time and for all of us to play COD for hours. This is, above all else, my main concern with Destiny. I desperately want to play the raids, but the opportunities to play them may be fleeting due to the 6-friend entry-barrier. I admire Bungie for sticking to their guns and putting this into the game, because the raids, I agree, will require an insane amount of cooperation, planning and dedication that traditional matchmaking simply can’t accommodate. But there are other ways: skill-based matchmaking might, just might work if implemented correctly. If there are very adept players out there who have completed raids then maybe they could be added to some sort of matchmaking list. A matchmaking list that you have to qualify for, might sound slightly ridiculous, but it would ensure that all your teammates are competent and skilful enough for the insane challenge. Or allow other players to ‘flag’ themselves when they want to play a raid alerting other players by having a raid symbol above their heads, I don’t know.

Well Said. I was a FPS Halo/COD super fan, left to WOW and SWTOR, coming back for this game. I beg Bungie to not make it easy for raids. That elusive loot when it drops and you get it.... the satisfaction can't be explained. I never played the beta, but trust my friend players and my readings on the this game. Got an XboxO, 2 days ago, it is hooked up and sitting waiting for destiny. The only thing I would probably add to this game, would be a open world PVP planet, maybe planet Uranus would be perfect for it.
