Destiny is without a doubt the best game I've ever played, you guys have nailed it.
There is only one thing that could cheapen this amazing game and potentially turn players away ... a player to player trade system.
Bungie community, join me and speak up about this pressing issue that has the potential to cheapen this stunning game.
Do you value the hard work it takes to earn cool gear?
Or do you not value the hard work it takes?
"Become Legend", this tag line says it all. It insinuates that you will work to develop your character and thus work towards becoming a legend. We don't want to trade so that we look like a legend.
The way the gear looks in destiny is stunning. When you see someone cruise past you in the tower with a sweet piece of gear, you know he's worked to achieve it. That is an amazing feat for a game developer, to create such awesome looking kit that everyone wants.
If Bungie implement a player to player trade system this will be meaningless. The whole experience of earning something special is cheapened. To think that a noob who's played for a week and hit 20 could be given gear from his highly experienced and dedicated mate is a sad thought. All of a sudden the last two months I spent earning that same piece of gear are worthless. The pride I had for my equipment, lost. There are many of us who experienced this on games like World of Warcraft, Borderlands and Diablo and felt that it ruined the game. So much that I stopped playing games that I used to love.
I would like to quote a few bungie developers from the video "out here in the wild" in the hope that if enough people vote on this, if our voice is strong enough, we can get bungie to make a firm stance against a trade system.
Christopher Barrett, art director "the number one priority was to make a world that people wanted to be in, something that you want to go back to and you want to explore".
If there is a trade system it will cheapen the game and people will lose excitement about going back and exploring.
Luke Smith, design lead "you're going to see a guy wielding the cudgel of zanthor or the fate of all fools or whatever crazy names the writers come up with for these weapons and armor, you're going to understand where they came from and what they went through to get there".
Man does this quote sum up my argument. With a player to player trade system we will NOT understand what anyone has been through to get their gear. In fact, we won't even know how long they will have been playing the game.
*Edit: A lot of great counter arguments have been made on this post and I should clarify. I am certainly not opposed to a well done trade system e.g. if items could only be traded for equal level items, or include a BOA or BOP system for high tier gear.
I was referring to the AH and gold trading/farming/selling with WOW. The item giving and duping in Borderlands.
I should have been more specific and not so general and I didn't realise this post would attract so much attention.
I still strongly believe that any system where people can give loot or trade for glimmer or parts would be bad idea. But if done right, a trade system would be great.
SECOND EDIT: a lot of people are complaining about the "terrible loot system", just FYI they DID just say they're patching tha said system. We have to see the changes that come out of it.
Also the game hasn't even been out for three weeks!!!!!! To me it's expected in a game like this that you have to play for ages to get good loot. 3 weeks is nothing.

as much as i like trading systems in games i would rather earn my stuff in Destiny and have the feeling of accomplishment
-
Trading should be allowed but only with friends, that way you can share the cool gear that one has for something of equal value to you. For instance my friend saw a cool piece of armor I had and I noticed a specific gun I wanted, isn't that fair trade? Give and get something in return, that's whats gonna make me play more is a nice and clean trade system. That way everyone is happy with what they receive. Sure it may not have the same value as earning it but if you don't want or need the item and you want something better why not have the desire to trade for it? Plus, they have to earn items also to trade with you. so in my eyes this is an equal exchange. The game was golden but it really needs a trade system!!!
-
I don't know that's a very touchy topic that would ultimately depend in how big the game will actually be me personally I'd say no to trade as of now.
-
1 ReplyDestiny doesn't need a trade system. It would destroy the game. Having an economy would just kill this game like it did diablo 3. Don't screw over the game because some people are to damn lazy to go an actually work for good gear.
-
1 ReplyDidn't they already shoot down a trade system for Destiny?
-
trading is awesome
-
I'm torn on this. I think they should allow some degree of trading but not fully. For example, you could trade commons and uncommons perfectly fine. But rares, legendaries, and exotics would be out. Unable to even be put up for trading. This would allow basic gear to be given to a friend if they're looking for a different version of a rifle but wouldn't allow for them to get an extremely rare rifle with no effort.
-
Your going at this the wrong way trading would be amazing but with limits for example no trading rare, legendary or exotics, or no trading with someone outside of a certain level range from you no trading custom made weapons and i would also say no trading class armor like badges, capes, and armbands i think that would be very cheap to trade class armor but yah i think if these were implemented into a trading system it would be a very nice and non-broken system
-
I for one think a trade system is great for example if me and my friends are playing and I get a good weapon but I have one better but my friends weapons are worse I can give it to him and vice versa.

Have you ever heard of/played EVE Online? The game revolves around player trading/selling. In that game, people buy and sell Officer Gear (which can only be retrieved by exploration) daily. (Of course, people also get rich selling stuff on the market, so there's a large use for it.) Someone who just started the game could buy that mod, if they had enough currency. The point is, a player trading system wouldn't hurt this game at all. It would, IMO, make it even better. So what if a noob has rare stuff? Maybe they even salvaged it themselves. Sure, it makes you look cool, and feel awesome, but others having it wouldn't be a problem. Although, in EVE, you can just shoot the noob and take his officer stuff. :P
-
A basic trade system wouldn't be bad. That is if only basic items were to be traded. No legendary or rare.
-
1 Replyi stopped reading at for us purist because you sound idiotic allready greys greens maby blue's i agree with trading but purples no
-
4 RepliesI agree as well. At first, I thought it would be cool to have a trade system in Destiny, but after capping out my Hunter at level 8 and acquiring the cape that you can only get from the Iron Banner, it was awesome to be one of the few Hunters that had the cape. Then, after reading this post realizing that a trade system might actually "cheapen" the game, and wondering if players would rather just get the equipment in a trade rather than have to embark on their own journey, makes it feel so weak compared to having to get the gear yourself.

Edited by Brewchino: 8/4/2014 4:10:53 AMPut me on the record for against trading The only way I could see this working is if we could only get exotic (or whatever level of hard to get) items once per guardian. I didn't think that through though I'm sure someone will agree & someone else will find the inevitable hole in it. Trading would inevitably involve real money, and if you played Warframe (or whatever) you know what that can lead to lol. It would be even worse in a game w/ PvP especially Iron Banner modes, when a bunch of players pay 5 or 10 bucks to get top tier stuff. It would completely cheapen that experience, IMO atleast I get wanting to share, but shit man. It's almost robbing your friend of an experience. You want them to get the item you have? Fire team up & do the mission with them boom they'll have earned it themselves now. Giving your friends or clan mates or whoever an easy route to Exotic land just isn't worth everything else that comes w/ it. I really hope this thread makes it to Bungie's eyes. Please tell me if I missed an advantage of trading (besides making money or not having to "grind" or do a mission or earn an item) EDIT: Ok ya if you can't trade exotics then I wouldn't be so disappointed if the system was implemented. But regardless, still don't like it

1st off I only read a small portion of your post. Now then as I've said before I say no trading at all UNLESS it stays like how it was during the Beta. During the beta only my ship, emblem & cloak on my main character (a Hunter) had some of a story because I earned them in Iron Banner. All the rest I bought or happened to get while farming. Their is no story if the story is "Well, the gunsmith happened to have a great timed deal" or "Oh I was farming glimmer in the cosmodrone, I randomly got something, took it to the cryptark & it turned out to be actually good" those are not worthy stories.... Therfore if it stays like that trading should happen. Now your probably thinking trading as in you can trade everything - no, my trading is, you can trade anything that IS NOT Legendary or Exotic.
-
If there's is to be a trade system players shouldn't be able to trade exotic and legendary equips..
-
I thought they already confirmed there will be no trade system. But I guess not.
-
Edited by Thinkcrown: 8/4/2014 3:17:50 AMYeah, I think it would be best if Destiny wasn't able to establish any sort of in-game community at all, so please keep it the way it is Bungie; no prox voice/chat and no trade system, and no community looking for group board. K, thx, die.
-
so what if i want to give my old gear to some one that needs it plus for destroying items does not give you shit
-
I'm fine with a trade system, but if it fails to enter the game it's really not a big deal at all to me.
-
i think you SHOULD have a trade system. Bungie would have to balance it so it won't be a noob getting level 20+ gear. Also gear has a level cap you have to meet before equipping it. They should have it but have it so you need to trade an item for another item of the same rarity. Also have it so you can only trade weapons for weapons and armor for armor. i would enjoy this if it was implemented. Just my opinion tho guys i see why you don't want trading but Bungie has put a big emphases on it already.

1 ReplyEdited by Yarvee: 8/3/2014 1:18:14 PMThe trade system broke Diablo 3 so they removed it and now it's much much better. The thing is, it makes it too easy for a new player to get powerful and so they lose interest in hunting for new gear, and a game like this is about the hunt, if you don't want that don't play this type of game. A trade system would break Destiny beyond belief, PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GAMING DO NOT ADD A TRADING SYSTEM.

I... actually can't make this call :/. On one hand I respect and appreciate and am inspired to go out and search for artifacts to power my legend whenever I see a guardian with wicked gear. On the other, there were times over the beta where I would get powerful weapons of types that didn't suit my play style, but well suited the style of my primary lieutenant, or another fireteam member. I wanted to give those to them rather than dismantling all of that potential for a few glimmer and some weapon parts. The strength of the wolf after all, is the pack... And if we can't help each other to grow stronger, prepare one another for the challenges we will face, then it becomes that much more difficult to build your team (especially with private loot streams). I would've liked to be able to gift or sell my extras to people who would better use them, my fellow guardians... But I agree that a full on trading system dramatically cheapens the experience of finding your very own legendary items that forge you into the guardian you shall become. Its a debate I feel strongly for on both sides, and so I leave it in the capable hands of the Bungie team. Are we to be "The Fellowship of Guardians" working together toward the reclamation of all that mankind and its allies have lost, or will we be "The Army of Heroes" each forged in the fires of our own hard fought victories, standing alongside every other self made Legend to beat back the darkness? The question is actually very philosophical. Domination through social connection and community, or by the strength of each soldier individually. I look forward to finding out, because either will make for an excellent game from my (admittedly romanticized) analysis.

I want to see an efficient system for whites greens and blues. But I've always said this about the system since they proposed it. Purples and oranges need to bind on pickup greens and blues need to bind on level up. This game currently has the strangest loot system I've seen because it throws items you never use at you while giving those items you need to your team mates(who also don't use them) if I get an decent rocket launcher and my buddy gets a decent sniper we should be able to trade each other but that would only apply up to blue in leveled weapons. It's fair that way, it let's you progress with out having and endless grind hoping that I'll get a weapon I need. Armor is a moot point because armor drops are class based. Not allowing anything over blue to be traded is the fairest way to handle that especially since from what I've see these will all be quest rewards or level of rep rewards. It makes sense for them to bind automatically. It doesn't create a inflated economy and glimmer shouldn't be traded at all. I'd rather give my buddy a rocket than dismantle it for pocket change

8 RepliesEdited by PSCHOMECH: 8/4/2014 12:32:16 AMOk for all of you who think a trade system will cheapen a game you are wrong. Only an unrestricted trade system will do that, therefore I propose the idea of a restricted trade system. *please note that all of the following restrictions must met or the trade fails* restrictions like: -same player levels ( same class type if trading armor) -same item level req. and rarity -players must be clan mates and/or on the friends list -items only trade, no buying items from players - trades are to be one for one, one item traded for one item gained. exceptions are expected so for the second page of the Gear section and Inventory. -Only the items that belong in the slot of the selected trade item can be traded. the trade must also follow the above rules. - you can not trade missions or bounties - only Materials and Consumables can be traded I agree with the whole "work for good gear" but sometimes the RNG gods just love to screw with you. This system also works with the fact that rare items are to remain, exactly that, rare. this system will also prevent lower level players from gaining OP gear due to the level and rarity requirements. Edit: should there be a minimum player level req. to trade? like level 8 or 10? Edit: trades wont include legendary or exotic items
-
If there is any trading it should be that you can only trade for something of the same rarity. If you spent hours and hours or even days to get that exotic/legendary piece you might come across someone who did the same for something else. Say you thought his actually would work better for you and yours for him, then there you go you can trade. Last the thing that ruined borderlands wasn't trading it was the duplicating, as long as everything i said does and doesn't happen then I'm all for trading.
