I wouldnt have a gun, but a bow. A very futuristic compound bow with a laser sight, knife attachment(like a bayonet) and it woulf shoot arcs of light from the traveler, arrows would be replenish-able walking over killed enemies and you would have active camo while crouched and drawing the bow back.
