I have seen many people commenting on which subclass they are going to be and the more support orientated classes such as defender and sunsinger seem to have very few people wanting to use them as they would lose the nova bomb or fist of havok. This article is here to set some things straight about how subclasses work and that people should not decide to only use one subclass.
The best analogy for a subclass I can think of is a piece of high level armour, you start with the basic one (gunslinger, voidwalker or striker) and upgrade it until you lock in or reach level 15 at this point a second subclass becomes available which you can equip and level up by earning xp but is the thing many people seem to miss. You can switch out your subclass with another in your inventory at any time, this was seen in the strike game play when the hunter uses golden gun and then later switches to arc blade. The changes will be larger than a piece of armour but the concept is the same different armour for different situations. This also means it is not as damaging to lock in as you could have one subclass for PvP, one for support role and one left open one for general use. You can hold up to three subclasses at a time in your inventory and this appears to be the limit as I doubt that you will be able to store them in your vault. This should means the support roles will be played more as they will not have to commit totally to it as many people (including myself) thought and as a result reducing their destructive potential in solo play.
I hope people especially titan users read this and decide not to invest totally in one subclass but to switch between them depending on situations as it can help you and your team mates a great deal.
Hope you all like the article and see you star side.

5 RepliesI am glad to see people changing their opinions on subclasses but has a third subclass been confirmed or denied?

1 ReplyAlthough this is true and possible, Bungie has spoken highly of the benefits of locking in your specific class that works for you. I doubt many players will not utilize Illumination and switch back and forth, especially with 3 character slots for whatever you want.

good to know all that effort isn't being erased

2 RepliesEdited by lordvikagaming: 8/1/2014 5:15:25 PMnot to bad but i have done intensive research on sub classes and found a site that lists all sub classes as well as all gear in game

1 ReplyI was planning on leveling both from day 1 on the Beta. Both subclasses, on every class, will hold some key ability that will be useful on an encounter-to-encounter basis. I plan on maining (or playing more hours than I should) a Titan and can't wait to try out the Defender class. I'm also still interested to see how the third subclass slot is used. Weather it's a new subclass introduced later that's a more "hybrid" style or if we will be able to get a "copy" of one of our subclasses and change it. Though the later is kinda pointless since it's free to chance your class' build.

Im actually more interested in raids and pve so I'm going to run as a titan defender as a prime and a hunter blade dancer for giggles for my secondary.

I will primarily be using the support subclass, but yes I understand that we'll be able to switch back and forth depending on the situation. For instance, it would be silly to use a support subclass (which generates orbs of light for your fireteam), while playing solo. Something I'm interested in doing is setting up my support subclass completely different from my aggressive one. For example, my warlock voidwalker will most likely focus on armor and recovery...while I'll use agility and recovery for my sunslinger. I can only guess that the third subclass will be the third element that each class didn't show in the beta. The warlock was void and solar, the hunter was solar and arc, and the titan was arc and void. So my guess is that the third will be arc for warlock, void for hunter, and solar for titan. An Arc Warlock sounds epic :D

3 RepliesHopefully the speculated 3rd subclass for guardians will be a support role for my hunter. Every other class has a team based support focus. I would like to employ subterfuge, deception, illusion to aid my firetime. Slight of hand to trick enemies like smoke grenades, decoys.
