It seems like an awful waste to use just one part of an entire planet. Maybe if all of the level elements were more spread out it would seem bigger. I do not mind the compact size though. While it detracts from the scale and atmosphere it is more fun and action packed. It's like IKEA map design. Bungie needs to add lots of little discoverable secrets, maybe some wandering NPC's, and more public events. The latter sold me on this game. Go Bungie!
