wildlife is there, there just isn't a whole lot of it (mostly birds) large wildlife would not be present in this areas, given that there are freakin aliens there. 2. last safe city...needed guardians to be revived from the dead just to explore and retake the land...it's pretty obvious from a lore standpoint that, only guardians (or those insane awakens at the reef) can survive in the wilds, it wouldn't make sense to have camps, and it's implied that teh machines, and general populance of the city and tower are pretty weak. 3. tea i want this too, as well as a much better day night cycle.
