Oh, I definitely want those different emotes. We actually have useful ones when we are on the Sparrow. I can emote my Fireteam to stop, to charge ahead, and I forgot what the other two were. But those are actually good when you are running around with random people you got teamed with, or you just come across other players in the zone, during an event. There were so many times I just wanted to give someone a thumbs up, because I got revived or got my ass saved, before a Knight stomped me into the ground. Sure, I could text him a thank you, but after like the 5th time of doing that, I'd have enough of it. Let me just press one of the directional buttons, let him quickly know I appreciate the assist, and then be on my way. John's suggestions are great, and I hope you'll consider them, and eventually implement them into the game.
