Honestly, I'm okay with how the game is now, but you have a point. It would be nice to see some context on some things.
Perhaps when you talk an Alliance leader they'll introduce their cause and what they do, and the player can go for reputation with what ever group they like most.
Right now, the only reason you would do something to gain rep for a group is because of their items they sell, but it would be nice to know what they are all about. Grimoire Cards may help us out with that, but IDT everyone's going to go crazy for them (I am, I love lore).
As for the enemies in the world, I'm sure it's that way for balance reasons. What if some reason you have to hunt down the Hive (They drop a certain loot you want, or you have a Bounty that requires you to kill them) and the Fallen have irradiated the Hive.
Having things like that would be cool for scripted events in certain missions, but because of the nature of the game, it's not really an easy thing to balance. The enemies in the overworld are there as walking bags of XP and, occasionally, as obstacles.
I think the maps are great, really. Plenty of cool, beautiful areas to explore. Secret areas with enemies too high for your level (I find it really fun going through those areas).
Sure, there isn't much in the overworld to do other than explore, but then again, what do you expect? You either do missions with objectives (which do give you scenarios such as a Fallen invasion or a complete lock down of an area by one of the enemy races) or you can go to "Explore" to... Well, um.. Explore.

Really? you're just OK with the game as it is now? not excited, hyped, eager or jumping up and down?. You see Destiny shouldn't be a game you just accept and play because it is there, it should make you want to experience it with your friends, push you to explore and reward you justly for your efforts and be great enough to make you want to relive it all over again. The NPCs can change easily and that idea would be nice for the final game however it just doesn't fit with what they have typically have done before (I would welcome the change of pace to be honest). Also that balance reason is seems silly after all those bounties also include the story mission kills which are linear from what I have seen, so if people really wanted the bounty they could always go back and do the self contained story missions and complete it. In regards to the balance in exp it really doesn't matter which side we shoot because they generally give us the same amount of exp. With both sides easy to kill they really are exp balloons that players pop for points, but you must admit that is boring and grindy just going along for exp. Ok you cant say they are supporting a delicate balancing act with enemies and EXP, only to put some AI on the map that players have absolutely no chance of defeating. Besides have you actually seen what that Hive Knight was hiding? I have, (took me a few tries but with AI like this it wasn't that hard) and it was pretty disappointing (A ghost, a chest and that was it) with the same static environment you always expected. And finally exploring. The most unrewarding, pointless one time only thing you have done in Destiny thus far (for all of the reasons in my original post). Swimming through AI for absolutely no payoff. I can scarcely even be bothered arguing over the exploration because it is just that bad.

The thing is it does make me want to explore more, it makes me want to play more with my friends. Learn more about the world it's in and discover new areas. I feel like you were just expecting something else that isn't Destiny. I'm satisfied with how Destiny is turning out. I'm not looking for fancy gimmicks to keep me playing, I just want to experience the story Bungie has to offer. And to be honest Bungie did a great job in my opinion (except for those "side missions" which aren't even worthy of the title) Last time I got a game that promised 100+ hours of gameplay, I ended up doing the main Quest, a few of the Side-quests that actually had depth to them. Everything else was just dungeon exploring with no reward or satisfaction in the end. Maybe sometimes Destiny wont give me a reward for my efforts, but I feel satisfied with the gameplay, challenge, and what I experienced trying to accomplished my goal. Everyone has their own opinion, man. Maybe there is potential for more, but I'm happy with what's on my plate.

Fair enough but I needed better than a worse but prettier version of borderlands from destiny. I sincerely hope it improves but I'm not sold on that happening.

Yeah, I feel like this game is most comparable with Borderlands, and TBH, from the sounds of it, when it comes to core content (missions, maps, length of main story) it's not too impressive.

Edited by Large Gorilla : 7/27/2014 3:36:51 AMThink of Fallout 3 mate, then compare it to this game. Its the difference between the oyster with the pearl and the one without. The game is too shallow for the amount of resources being thrown at it. Also, why the hell aren't those cards in game? Lets compare another game with a ton of lore that did it better: Mass Effect.

Edited by boxoffire59: 7/27/2014 3:44:22 AMYeah well, I see Fallout 3 as a completely different game. Fallout 3 is all about exploration, while Destiny is more about progressing through the main plot. The exploration aspect is pretty much just a side activity. Fallout 3 is more of a traditional RPG than an FPS, as Destiny is more of a Traditional FPS than an RPG.

Yea I know, but I wished it was reversed. Destiny should be an rpgfps imo. Right now its an fps with very few RPG elements.

I'm sorry but I see them close comparisons for the genre. Fallout is such a better post apocalyptic world in key features the games share. Fallout has great environment interaction often with more that 1 way to approach a situation. It also has excellent looting, NPCs, side missions and AI. Sure Destiny cant be as great as Fallout because of limitations, but it should be striving for/hitting the same level of replay ability and from what we have seen from the game so far it isn't even close to it.

No it's not. Not many games are :P
