What the Open World Needs

I believe making the open world feel more "Open" it needs a few things. Add whatever you believe it needs too. 1. Wildlife: I saw this moments ago and it got me thinking that it would make the world feel more alive. 2. Camps and/or caravans: Adding machines like the ones from the tower to distribute missions and possibly even make minor trades of some sort possible. 3. Weather: Changing weather would make the world seem more real and offer a new feel to the combat in roam making it feel more realistic in a way. And preferably regionally appropriate weather. Edit: the wildlife would not be what we have today but twisted creatures from the hive that look like animals roaming the planets and moons that they inhabit. And the camps or caravans could have guardians protecting the machines. Apparently people take these posts as demands for extreme content changes so I'll say this. These are only my ideas for what could be added in the future at some point not for what needs to be done by release. Please no comments stating that anyone has a bad idea, if you're not being positive you're being a hinderance.

  • Totally agree weather & camps would be so great! I was thinking that only having the one vendor was a bit boring too. I want to explore and find some merchant from beyond the wall selling scavenged at mementos from our alien oppressors etc.

  • the camps or caravans i definitely agree with, it would be nice to be able to grab bounties or be able to pick up missions from one place when your on a planet.

  • I can definitely see that this would add value, not sure if it would all fit in so to speak, but I respect what you are putting out there.

  • I did find exploring bland after awhile. I think that these are excellent ideas to implement. Friendly npcs would be nice to see every now and again.

  • I agree. It gets annoying to have to go back to the tower anytime I need to sell stuff or buy a new gun

I whole-heartedly agree with everything you have suggested. Yes, we should have ambient life of some sort. Yes, we should have dynamic weather. Yes, we should have NPC outposts. These are all great ideas! I was just about to suggest of few of them myself, in fact. To me, the open world exploration lost its charm after the first hour or so. It's just so bland! Half a million generic missions that never change or have you do anything unique, and that have you running back and forth through Skywatch over and over again. Weather, outposts, and more life in general, whether it be enemies or friends, would make it so much better. Also, a little variety in the missions, please. I get tired of killing enemies and scanning the same places I've already been over and over again. Dynamic environments would be cool as well. Say there's a rickety old building that you can find and explore, but the next time you come back, it's been destroyed, and you can explore the ruins of the building you once knew. It's the same building, but it's different, adding the excitement of exploring something new and unfamiliar. I also love the idea of small NPC camps. It would be a small island of peace in the middle of hostile world where you could feel safe. Dynamic events could affect these as well. Say the Fallen destroy an outpost and kidnap your favorite NPCs. You could go on an epic quest to rescue them from the Fallen's evil clutches before it's too late! If we could explore more of Earth besides Old Russia, it might not be so bad. I just get sick of staring at the same landscape for hours. We need forests, deserts, tundras, desolate cities, and so forth. I'm just saying, the free-roam needs a lot of variety and new content to keep me coming back. Otherwise, it gets old really fast.

    • >it would make the world feel more alive. Yeah, but the world's supposed to be dead and post-apocalyptic. Haven't you noticed? There are a few birds and insects, but yeah, bigger stuff wouldn't survive. >2. Camps and/or caravans: Yeah, but the world is supposed to be dead and enemies aren't going to ignore looting a City vending machine. The probes are as intrusive and unassuming as a situation like the one in Destiny would allow. >3. Weather This would actually be really cool. Just my two pence.

    • I completely agree. The open world as it stands just feels like a big Halo level with a few chests scattered around. It hardly feels like a living world and exploring it is pretty boring.

    • Open world sparrow racing events. Enemies need some personality (Halo grunts).

      • Those are amazing ideas! I really hope this is added at some point:) I just hope that if there's rain it won't be loud an annoying or laggy like Minecraft rain.

      • I think this is great!! Just adding on to the environment aspect but weapon damage to the environment, such as bullet holes or maybe if you shoot a rocket launcher at the ground it would create a crater in the ground. What do you guys think?

      • I like these alot.... it helps when your a mindless explorer like myself. It keeps you from being bored of the same scenario for hours especially when the side missions have you riding your sparrow back and forth Twisted creatures may be interestingespecially if they can attack all sides fallen hive and the player

      • I agree. Mostly with 2 and 3. I really hope this game has a bunch of side missions(not the green beacon things) I mean actual side missions that actual rpg games have.

        • I like your ideas. I also have some of my own. What is there were more ruin like areas to explore, or at least some better side quests? I mean, it's the ruins of earth and other planets, there should be more than enemies and snow.

          • Less music or at least the option to turn it down. I work a constantly noise oppressive job as an air traffic controller. LOVED how the alpha was more quiet. I prefer to hear the natural sounds of my environments & enemies.

            • I totally agree with all 3. The open world seems a little empty at the moment. Dead ghosts and loot chests (golden and regular) aren't enough of content to fill the world in my opinion as well.

            • Exactly. the open world doesnt feel alive. Its just a battle field with some caves. When i first heard about destiny's open world i was expecting so much stuff. Creatures to hunt and maybe even to keep as pets. Crazy npc's like in skyrim or fallout. Safe havens. Random mini bosses. And other openworld/rpg elements
