I believe making the open world feel more "Open" it needs a few things. Add whatever you believe it needs too.
1. Wildlife:
I saw this moments ago and it got me thinking that it would make the world feel more alive.
2. Camps and/or caravans:
Adding machines like the ones from the tower to distribute missions and possibly even make minor trades of some sort possible.
3. Weather:
Changing weather would make the world seem more real and offer a new feel to the combat in roam making it feel more realistic in a way. And preferably regionally appropriate weather.
Edit: the wildlife would not be what we have today but twisted creatures from the hive that look like animals roaming the planets and moons that they inhabit.
And the camps or caravans could have guardians protecting the machines.
Apparently people take these posts as demands for extreme content changes so I'll say this. These are only my ideas for what could be added in the future at some point not for what needs to be done by release.
Please no comments stating that anyone has a bad idea, if you're not being positive you're being a hinderance.

well it needs to get rid of the invisible walls and kill boundaries first
-
When you are in the open world i think just regular enemies like dregs and vandals should drop just one glimmer to make income slightly easier because i would have made enough for a whole new ship/sparrow by now and i think the bosses should drop slightly more
-
heh a real open world would of been nice. Think skyrim. Some areas we can't get to right now are just pretty pictures as backgrounds.

Agreed

I thought this kind of stuff would be great when my imagination was going before I actually played it. Then I realized the world of Destiny is pretty tiny, you can't do simple things like pick up weapons, swim, or anything that you would expect to be able to do naturally. A game with absolutely no RPG influence has had been portrayed beforehand. When I thought the world would actually be open, I thought hunting deer out in forests would be sweet. Crafting your own things from leather like Skyrim meeting Sci-Fi. Nope. The customization was better in Reach!!! I'm totally surprised. This is sadly not the type of game that can support cool openworld features. Throw wildlife into these tiny, direct maps and it will just feel weird and cramped.

Edited by kjgibbs: 7/27/2014 7:51:04 PMNeeds a navigation map. Bungie please seriously consider having an in game map for campaign. Too many ways to get lost and get stuck in a rabbit hole. Having to go to orbit means loading at least twice and waiting. #map

Many people seem to have trouble grasping the idea of animals in destiny. I for one think it would be a great idea. Before I go into detail though and you denounce me I should tell you I am not talking about the normal little blue bird or grizzly bear we are used to. No I am speaking of their evolved forms. It has beeen centuries since the traveler has come to earth, so what is stopping the animals from evolving into tougher/slier/more inteligent being? How about we still have the regular little bats, but also in certain caves we have the more advanced, giant bat. About 10-15x bigger than the average bat with the ability to screech a sonar blast that could disorient you while you are fighting it. And why not have lions look somewhat similiar (some changes can be made) but they have now evolved so that their hind leg muscles are strong enough to allow them to jump around spiraticaly. Making them much harder to track down and shoot until they are right up on you ripping your throat out. These are just some of my ideas. What can you guys come up with?

I think there needs to be interesting npc's that give out interesting side mission these beacons are just grindfests
-
GOOd ideas
-
Enemys need a some personality.
-
I agree
-
And the wildlife should drop loot and items
-
Good ideas I support this 100%

For the caravan/camp idea, the guardians that protect it could have taken it up as a mission to protect it to a certain point and get a reward from it, like in Mount&Blade. If you haven't played the series then you're missing out, although I don't blame you if you've heard of it but don't like it. Everyone has their own cup of tea. (I think thats how the saying goes right? Well idk, and idc)

YES i want weather! It would be so cool just to stalk fallen with my sniper while its raining and its night.
-
It would be cool if you could fast travel to these camps
-
The one that really stuck out to me was different weather conditions. I would love if it would have a dark, rainy night with lightning; it would feel like a real world.
-
All very good ideas! I think if the wildlife isn't doable it would at least be nice to be able to kill the birds and get feathers to turn in like Spinmetal for Vanguard or Crucible points.

When I first heard about the "free roam" in destiny I was thinking big, like you could be able to explore the whole planet big, you know with big forests, huge mountains, enormous cave systems, and a ton of open spaces, where anything is possible. I already think of destiny as an incredible game, but if free roam was a little "FREE ROAM" and you could find like caves and mountains, and ruined cities, with enemies lurking around every corner of course. Destiny has SO much potential, it really does, and I know bungie is doing there best to bring us an awesome game. Thanks Bungie

Yeah like they could add all this in one month before release to every planet. This is way to big of a request man. Try something smaller because the game is already done
-
Haven't seen an open world hidden walls everywhere
-
Take out the blaming invisible walls and all those other restrictions!
-
Destiny's world is less filled than 6th gen games such as GTA3. 500mil budget and years of development my anus
-
Wild life would be awesome make the world seem a lot larger not like the only things on the planets are the guardians and the enemy. It would also be cool to get crafting material from them because finding spin metal isn't that easy and using them in game requires large quantities of the material.

I saw birds flying in the sky... I shot them... They didn't die... They kept doing circle laps in the sky... Life..
