I agree with the points you bring up, but I also accept the fact it's not possible with the limitations of the old gen hardware.
I still find the game highly enjoyable, I'm looking forward to the main story.

Hardware limitation aside, how big will the story truly be because I agree with the OP comments of a lifeless world and the main story is the only thing that really makes this game enjoyable for me. I have no interest in PvP and neither do the majority folks that are interested in buying the game. This game will live or dead by the PvE portion of the game. That is what is suppose to make Destiny unique. My concern is how long is the main story. I timed the 5th level story mode last night, granted I was level 8 with an attack 62 auto rifle but it ran for 15 minutes for me. So I will double that time for being the appropriate character level for the mission to 30 mins. The game appears to have 21 map locations. Using Old Russia as the example, I'll assume 5 story mode per map. 105 Story modes. At 30 minutes a piece divide by 60 minutes in an hour, that would be approx 53 hours of play. 90% of Destiny is a fps shooter. I have yet to see a story for a fps shooter go more than 15 hours for a story. And that is long. Most average 10 hours. Will Destiny break that mold and actually provide this huge of a story for a shooter? Or will Destiny be like other shooters with an average length story and last a week or two for playing the story? Unfortunately Explore mode is no different than playing Warframe. You shoot stuff to collect stuff. Plus you have a major grind to get Vanguard marks if you want to buy any Legendary gear. If Destiny has an average story length of about a week or two and you finish that right away and Explore mode is so lifeless, the game doesn't seem worth purchasing. At least not until you could buy the game with the two expansions included also as say $40. If my son's girlfriend can get me the game at a discount, I buy it at launch. Else I will wait for game and user reviews to see how the story is.
