Skill level on PS4 is really lacking

I don't consider myself to be a godly online competitive gamer. I have a pretty strong Halo background from last gen (search NZL Lamby), but never got above 1.6-1.7 kd. In Destiny, its shot up to around 2.6-2.7. With basic Halo knowledge and movement I stomp every game, pretty much going MVP every time and getting a steady stream of hate. Have other former Xbox owners noticed this? And do you think once the game is released more decent people will come through? Cause right now I'm having fun, but its more like farming a bunch of level 1 MMO players than a fair fight.

Come talk to me when your k/d is Past 184. Hint: look at my warlock....
wow so many people took this as a serious comment! Now I will be very forward with all of you, THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A JOKE! Hopefully I have made my self clear. Probably not though, I bet zShankedz will still take this as a serious comment and call me a "retard".
I was shit at halo (I could drive my ass off though) and I'm less shit at destiny because I understand the basics of strafing, backpedaling, and taking out halo-esque vehicles. But honestly bro I think you're just good at the game

        • I have noticed the same thing. I joined the PSN now after 10 years of playing the Halo franchise. The Shields and such subtle things like the amount of melee-dmg it takes to score a kill feels very halo-esque. This is probably something that PS-users will have to get used to while people like you and me know how to move and jump around in order to not get melee'd and little things like that. (Halo 2's BXB taught me this for life, haha) My K/D in Halo games was always around 1.5 to 1.6 and now I have a K/D of 2.9 on my hunter and 2.3 on my warlock and there is rarely ever a game in which I don't have one of the top 3 scores. To all those who say K/D doesn't matter in the control gametype: it does. Also: I get all these kills by running around from point to point and clearing the areas of people. Getting the extra score for capping is just a bonus. Your point about PS-players coming mostly from the CoD region seems about right. The worst problems they have to deal with is probably aiming for the head - and getting around the shield.

          • I don't know about all of that, OP. But I have been watching whats been broadcasting on Twitch... and most of those people suck. Badly. Actually, most of the people I have been watching run the PvP on Twitch... they talk a huge game, but they couldn't be any worse if they tried. I mean, one guy's channel was him talking a huge game (while he played mind you) about how he was nuking bitches and owning everybody. The video stream showed the exact opposite happening. I went through channel after channel of this shit. Now, don't get me wrong. There were a couple of streams (by 'a couple' I mean two...) where the broadcaster was actually as good as he said he was. That's great. But it occurs to me that this is a visual representation of an idea similar to what the OP brought up. Not that PS players are worse simply because of their system, that would be a retarded idea. But the idea of people vastly overselling their ability, then being dumb enough to stream evidence that they're nothing more than liars. And bad ones at that. That humors me greatly.

            • This is the second time I've played an FPS first time was waaaaaaaay back in 90s the game just drew me in. I imagine there's many first timers as well. Your years of experience paid off. Give it time

              • Its possible that because everyone is pretty much capped at the same level, and we are all stuck at the same phase of progression in the beta, the crucible can't match us up against other skilled players with similar stats. Just a guess, I'm in the same boat as you though buddy. MLG contender in my halo days. Psn - MIKES_TOO_STRONG

                • I'm getting the hang of it, sometimes I get 2.5+kd on round and then I do really bad haha. Trying to get used to a controller though as I'm a PC player and never really play console for fps games. But since I would be waiting a very long time for a possible PC release I have got to get it on console. I have heard people recommend scuf controllers, apparently more accurate?

                • You kind of answered your own question with your 10 years of basic halo knowledge. You should have a slightly better KDR by comparison.

                • I would imagine that there is a large number of MMO PC gamers that have been learning to use a controller in a FPS setting. I'm one of them. The PvE, co-op nature, and story pulled me in to this game. It'll take time for players like me to gain the skill of aiming easily on a controller.

People may want to read this: IMO: many players on both PSN and XBL will learn to adapt to Bungie's new IP (Destiny). Of course readers believing the stereotype that XBL players are more competitive than PSN players is understandable, due to the last generation console (Xbox 360) being home to successful FPS/3PS franchises such as Halo and Gears of War. After saying that though, it would be good to point out that many XBL players have broken away and transitioned to PSN this console generation. Continuing to say that XBL is home to the best FPS/3PS competitors is more so a thing of the past. Most titles being released this generation will be multi-platform due to the consoles similar architecture (Destiny for example). Bungie has managed to create the face of competitive gaming via the Master Chief, but now is no longer held hostage beneath Microsoft. Give things time and let players play beyond the Beta. Playstation 4 sales have been incredible in comparison to the Xbox One (Fact). I believe that it is safe to say that a good portion of Destiny pre-orders will be coming from the PSN community come this Fall (More players = More healthy and substantial competition). Competitive gaming breeds competitive players. With a vast increase in population, I expect only the best from Sony's very successful platform (Playstation 4) and PSN. Note: Incase people decide to argue or challenge this post. I have been consistent across both platforms (Xbox/Playstation). MVP = MVP (IMO) regardless of competitive gaming stereotypes and semantics. If someone is decent/good at FPS/3PS games, then they will most likely continue being decent/good at FPS/3PS games. Coming from someone who has recently transitioned consoles for the first time in 13 years (Been playing Halo since it's release in 2001).

                  • if all your worried about is K/D ratio and your not playing a 'team deathmatch' style game then you got it all wrong. but yeah shotty and melee all day will get your k/d pretty high....seems to be same strat in halo

                    • K/D doesn't really determine whether your a "good" player. It's the overall contribution to your team. Plus, just because the ps doesn't have halo, doesn't mean it's less competitive. I've played halo and was averaging bout the same I do on the ps. The whole xbox is more competitive is really just an opinion and not a fact anyways.

                      • Going off last gen, most people on Xbox live were more competitive than the people on PSN. I always thought it had to do with the fact that you paid for the ability to matchmake, so it felt more important and your stats were tied to that one gamertag. With PSN you could make a new account willy nilly so poor stats didnt matter, you could just make a new account. With the PS4 and XB1 however i wouldnt know, ive only got the XB1 so far.

                        • Most PSN users are COD players so with Destiny being totally different I'm sure some are trying to get use to the unfamiliar mechanics. I'm sure over time the skill gap will start to shrink.

                          • Did you actually try to take the objectives or just run around trying to get kills like i seen so many people do. Its so frustrating to be taking an objective and your teammates just run off trying to get kills. So yeah you can have a big kill ratio but are you actually trying to be a team player and win the round?
