To start I have to say that Destiny is a really, really pretty game. It looks for all intents and purposes fantastic. However the environment/world so far has been boring, extremely boring.
Environment
The maps and environments the players play in are seriously sterile and lifeless, the player can’t interact with it on any level whatsoever and nothing changes no matter how much time has passed or what happens. The best example of this is where you can see the Fallen and the Hive duking it out in the areas of the Cosmodrone. Sure they are fighting each other, in the same places however they do nothing else but give us something to shoot. You don’t see which side wins, there aren’t corpses littered around, you don’t see them disposing (or absorbing) their dead and because no one ever wins there are no effects on the environment.
Imagine the Fallen cleansing the area of the hive presence when they win while observing the toxic effect the hive previously had on the environment retreat as the Fallen become more present in the tunnels and set up a serious base of operations. Only to have the hive emerge from right underneath them in a surprise assault which defeats/displaces the fallen and watch the environment undergo another shift where the barnacles and green miasma of the Hive spread into buildings and the general area. Instead we have a few units that run out and shoot each other over and over again where we could have a wonderful, interesting and intricate cycle.
Also there is legitimately nothing to find in the environment except a chest or ghost here or there (and spinmetal) players should be able to scavenge things from dead guardians (not PCs), old supply caches, supplies guarded by enemies etc. There is none of that to be found here which makes adventuring/ killing never ending re-spawned AI’s unrewarding. Scavenging in this setting makes sense and for gameplay it fits in for exchange and glimmer purposes.
The use of only one unchanging map “for everything” should not occur. Ever. I really do hope we come back to earth and unlock even more areas to enjoy so we have some variety but for now we have been in the same map for many separate missions (and raid of sorts) going in slightly different directions each time. All of these missions should have really been clumped together namely finding the ship and the warp drive and finding the hive then activating the array. This would help improve player interest in going back to these areas.
Lifeless
The NPC’s in this game are glorified vending machines or seemingly do nothing at all. They have exceedingly little substance with only a fragment of personality given in their dialogue, I have no reason to care about the various groups that have vendors in the game or their views as their missions consist of two sentences in free mode that involve collecting or killing things that have no impact on their dialogue, actions or environment. What you do is folded out of existence never to be heard again until you repeat that same mission
and considering we just came back from the dead this is the perfect opportunity to allow the player to ask questions or inform us of these things while interacting with characters we will be seeing often.
Your enemies have no purpose whatsoever. They stand around, looking around places for no reason and then defend them to the death like they are somehow important (none of them actually run away or escape). Killing on sight is ok for some but the Fallen are a hit and run race that are supposed to utilise agility to fight yet they stand out in the open most of the time and are not agile in any sense of the word (they can also scale walls really well but I have yet to see that actually implemented in their AI).
All in all these reasons kill any intention of going back to explore because you already know exactly what it will be like and know that it hasn't changed since you last saw it.
Here is a giant hole in your argument that makes this WHOLE POST pointless. You ready.......ITS ONLY A BETA RIGHT NOW. They aren't going to put as much stuff as you and EVERY BODY ELSE I've seen bitching wants to see atm. The whole concept behind a BETA is to find issues, receive CONSTRICTIVE feedback, and see what can be fixed removed or added when THE ACTUALL GAME IS RELEASED. Quit bitching, be patient and see how the FULL game is and works before talking negatively. If you are unable to do so the you are welcome to NOT play and NOT post ignorant pointless shit cause no one is forcing you to do so

I would actually take what you said seriously if this beta happened one year to six months ago, but be realistic. This game will not change in 2 months time. All they can do at this point are patches that don't solve any of the core problems this game has.
-
What core problems hell the only real problem I see e it it is the over powered super of the Titan and Warlock vs the Hunter.
-
"It's only a BETA." I've heard that phrase spoken so many times by desperate fools who were nervous about so many games they wanted so desperately to love , and by the time SWTOR came out, I decided that when someone says, "It's only a BETA," they are the ones who are going to be the most disappointed. BETA these days, especially in an MMO, means, "This IS the game. Progression may be cut off at a certain point during a BETA. You might find more items in the game after full release, but this BETA as far as gameplay and the content that's made available for people to test, is exactly what you're going to get when the game goes Live. Stop lying to yourself. What we are playing right now IS DESTINY. That said, I had more fun playing it all day on Sunday than any game in recent memory. Bring it on!

This. I was disappointed with the 'lifeless' world of ESO Beta. Just thought, its an Elder Scrolls game, ofcourse the full game will have better NPCs. NOPE! While I love the map design, texture quality, and overall feel for the game, idle NPCs can kill the immersion.
-
I think this is a problem MMOs. Though I can't say that for sure, because I haven't played many of them. But from the ones I have played, they don't seem immersive or alive as normal RPG single player games.

Edited by dragonsfollwer: 7/22/2014 8:26:42 PMActually I've yet to be disappointed with what I've seen. I have played EVERY mmo to date and point of fact the only two made by final fantasy have been the only ones to dussapoint. The problem is people are expecting everything to be perfect. Guess what folks no game is going to be perfect, hell even the ALMIGHTY WoW still has problems today and it's been out how long now. If you want a perfect game with ZERO issues I suggest monopoly or scrabble.

What are you talking about man, the top hat is OP and everyone knows it.
-
Solitare, if people even know what that is anymore...

First of all this is feedback for the beta and you cannot deny (and have not denied)that majority of the issues I have stated are in the beta as it stands right now. Second I have given extremely constructive feedback, highlighting my issues and gathering data via a poll to further improve the quality of the feedback they will receive from this post. Also beta or not it is unlikely that they restricted AI, ways to scavenge/loot, respawn loops and the quality of missions (Mainly side missions). I can safely say that I am not "Bitching" because that is exactly what you are doing in your post. Bitching.
-
actually i do disagree entirely but then again i understand that this is a beta and is not the full product unlike most people i have seen who are talking shit to this point. and fyi if you cant take other oppinions or feedback to what you have to say its best not to say anything.
-
Again you can say that you disagree but your only reason for doing so is because its a beta. You have not shown or pointed to, any evidence that supports your argument that what I have stated does not in fact exist in the beta. Also I have a huge sample (around 1500)of people that attest that these problems do in fact exist. Can you point to evidence that supports your belief that Bungie will change the game significantly? After all they teased this as a sample of Destiny and the game is only two months from launch. I really want to believe that these are just beta issues, however I did that during the alpha and I have no serious reason to believe that these issues exist just in the beta.
-
Edited by dragonsfollwer: 7/22/2014 3:24:12 PMi have failed to see any of these issues and have actually enjoyed it so far. may only issue is wondering if there will be pve events similar to the iron banner pvp event we just had.
-
I had the same thought,I sent a feedback saying enemy encounters are repetitive and Predictible,Bungie should randomize the enemies that spawn maybe even add a boss every now and then to give the game more life.
-
We know it's the Beta. We know it's not finished. This is called a feedback thread. Therefor, we are giving feedback. We have as much evidence that it will remain lifeless as we have evidence that it won't. These are the concerns we have for the full release. We want to make sure our voices are heard and what we hoped for doesn't go ignored. That's all. That's what this forum is for. If the full release ends up being everything we wanted--awesome. If not, you can't say we didn't show concern and express our reservations.

showing concern is one thing talking shit is another
