The Dad's Of Destiny

Evening all, I thought I'd start this thread up for all of us out there who are dad's looking at this awesome looking game coming on the horizon, and asking ourselves "how on earth are we going to get the time to play this awesome game!?" I'm a reasonably new father with a little girl who is my everything. Before she came into this world I found myself with a reasonable amount of time to game if I wanted to but now she's my no.1 objective. I found a little bit of time to play the alpha, and absolutely loved it but it soon dawned on me how much of a time sink it could become lol. So my question to you, the dad's of destiny, how will you be managing your time between dirty nappies, mealtimes, crying fits, and all the beautiful things we have to do as being a father, and a good partner to your girlfriends, fiancées, and wives? And not forgetting jobs too lol I work nights so I'm a bit of a night owl so on my days off I can grip some play late at night whilst my daughter sleeps with the possibility of a few hours when my partner is at home too. Really looking forward to the beta, and even more so for the full game! Your thoughts below guys :-) Here's the link to the group! http://www.bungie.net/en/Groups/Detail?groupId=112045

  • Well the thing for me is...my wife will not let my 2.5 yrs old son watch me play any FPS games. I tend to agree with her, but the few times he's watched me, he sits and quietly watches gameplay like a hawk. This means I can only shoot my guns at night. But since another little one is on the way (due the week after release) not sure if I'll be able to play before 2015 😕

    • Ha I remember those days. When my son was first born I used to play with him sleeping right on my chest. Those days are long gone now. The best suggestion is to game while the little one naps or sleeps if they are at the stage where they crawl/run around and get into things. My two are bigger now and plus I'm single and get them only 50% of the time. It tends to give me a lot of free time to get my gaming on. Destiny will fill a large void in my life :)

    • I work nights i'm taking the week of Destiny's official launch off for starter's but to deal with the wife and kids if you have them i would spend the entire week before giving the Miss's a lot of extra attention till she cant take anymore i.e. carpet burns and such cough cough. Then tell her you have to take a business trip out of town for a few days and just hide at a nearby motel with super high speed internet. @_@

      • Dad 2nd time over. Just had my second, she was born 5/25/14 B.B. (before beta). My better half is taking care of the sanitation, so I should have plenty of time for some some smoking headshots. ;-) . It's good to see there is a healthy mature community! I was worried that this games primary denizens were millennials.

        • I commented earlier but this tread deserves another similar statement. It is so good to see just how positive this thread is. People are sharing not arguing and are connecting not separating into ridiculous groups like PS vs XB. I am not a dad but I would love to be a part of this group.

          • I am a 37 yr old with 4 children. 3 Girls 1 Boy. The 3 girls love their sleep and are in bed most nights by 8:30-9pm (So is the Wife). Which gives me a couple of hours each night to play and my son who is 15, I just bought him his own PS4 after I found out split screen is not happening. So him & I play most nights together. My Wife & I run a small business.

Me and my boy will be playing, Christmas I'll get a 3rd PS4 for the wife if the game is worth it and we all will play together. We all game I'd say average 10 to 20 hours a week. Since its summer our gaming is very little due to Pools, Fishing, Street Hockey, and Cook Outs!! When a new game comes out we do a lot of playing and our hours go up. Boarderlands 2 we put in some crazy hours together!!! We are a gaming family, but we to tons of other stuff also. We are also currently making a movie. Here is a silly preview of the movie. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uw2qGWGMfgg Make sure you have your priority right, if your family isn't gamers or not old enough you have to respect that. Make gaming a hobby, but on the other hand your family shouldn't get upset if you play a little if its something you love.

I'm a dad. Over the past 15 years, ive adjusted myself to going to bed around 1-2 am. So I still get around 3 hours a night, after the wife and kid are asleep, to game...unless she stays up late gaming herself. :-)

                • Im a 33 year old father with 5 kids, wrk 50 hrs a week on night shift in a marble mine. I will get my game on in the am while the kids are at school and the wife is at wrk. I rarely get to game like i use to. But a few hours every morning is enough. :)

                  • Destiny comes out in September, and I'm getting married on Halloween. I work full time, plus I go to college 3/4 time, so finding time to play games is difficult. I can't even imagine I'll have much time when I have a child. Hopefully in the small amount of free time I have, I will enjoy Destiny to the fullest extent possible.

                      • I'm also a father, but separated from my partner and do not live with my son so I do have a reasonable amount of time to play outside of work and my commitments to my son. I see him every day, don't want anyone getting the impression I am part time, pick him up from school etc. As much as I am looking forward to Destiny I would rather have the problem of juggling time at home, as strange as that sounds.

                            • It's a bit sad, after being able to take a few months off the be with my first child while he is still an infant I have now had to return to work, and then destiny is released. Going to be a bit of a struggle to share my time around, but I will make the best of it.

                              • Great thread! We should create a DoD Clan and make a community here. Most of us probably don't use bad language since we don't want our kids or anyone else's being exposed to that and that alone would be worth having a community of players to game with. Also, as someone else mentioned if we are orchestrating group content events and someone has a real life challenge come up we are a more understanding bunch given that we all understand that family and real life come before a game. What do you guys think?

                                  • I have a 15 month old boy and another baby on the way, usually I can get a couple hours gaming in when my mrs works nights but she's currently suffering and is at home so I can squeeze a bit of gaming in if she falls asleep early enough :P I can see that with 2 kids I will probably have to book time off work well in advance to get any time on it haha, so be it, my kids are my world. I'd love to join up with more dads of destiny, it guarantee's a bit more maturity and a laugh. See you all on there soon

                                  • lol i was just talking to my girl about playtime on this game and what would be fair. I had to be honest with her before i pre ordered the game and explaine how much time could really be invested in a game like this. My sons due in aug and i have a 3 yr old daughter and work days, so she replied " better enjoy the hell out of the beta lol" !!!

Even then I can only really play for an hour in the evenings and the bulk of my playtime is on the weekend (sometimes). You guys can find me on the PS4 as alburko I do have a headset that I use regularly. Destiny awaits!
