Seriously, the single player is amazing in many ways, especially in terms of graphical and audio fidelity. I have never seen a 2009 game look this good, nor have I ever heard a game with a better soundtrack (MW2's was by Hans Zimmer). Probably, not even Halo's soundtrack by Martin O'Donnell could beat MW2's soundtrack. It completely immerses you into the game and the vast battles going on around you. In terms of gameplay, the gameplay is quite amazing as well. MW2 has many innovative mechanics such as iron sights, customizable weapon attachments, killstreaks, sprinting, and more, that influenced virtually all later shooters. While some of these mechanics may have been in previous shooters, MW2 developed them to full and it was because of MW2 that these features rose to prominence. It was also the first game to combine all of them together. The story, though perhaps sketchy at times, was overall, very fun, and quite memorable. The mission variety is amazing and is set in a variety of places across the world with beautiful maps and character models. There are even many instances of characters having interesting conversations that tells you stories about the world you are playing in that no military shooter has ever done, and upon playing the campaign over again I realized that it has used many instances of foreshadowing and irony that makes this, dare I say, an interesting literary work. Over the years I still remember the epic moments of MW2's single player, with Hans Zimmer's epic soundtrack playing in the background.
The multiplayer is quite amazing as well. I would not say it is completely balanced but it is in fact quite well done, and I have to say I had more fun playing MW2's multiplayer than Battlefield 3's. It kept me playing for hundreds of hours, and I would say that is actually rather short, considering I only prestiged twice and there are people who prestiged 10 times.
The coop is also amazing. I remember playing through all the Spec Ops missions with my friends trying to get 3 stars on everything... that was one of the best coop experiences I ever had, up there with Left 4 Dead and other epic games.
All in all, I think MW2 was the true pinnacle of the Call of Duty series, rather than Call of Duty 4. Nevertheless, this went downhill from then on. I really believe that, overall, it has the most complete package of any modern military shooter that no Battlefield game can match. In fact, I would argue that all three components of this game (single player, multiplayer, and coop) are superior to their Battlefield counterparts, as well as to those of most other games. I do think, however, that the Counter Strike series has a better multiplayer than MW2 does.

10 RepliesI played the hell out of MW2 back in 2010. 10th prestige achieved and thirty days of playtime later and I still find myself going back to it once in a while. That said, MW2 has more problems than any other COD that I've played. -Javelin Glitch (People would run at you with a Javelin and when you killed them it would just detonate in their hands, with a gigantic blast radius) -Marathon/Lightweight/Commando Tac Knifing (People would run around at ungodly speeds just knifing people with the tac knife attachment on their pistol, and the worst part was how well it actually worked at getting kills) -Grenade Launchers/One Man Army (This combination practically ruined the game when a couple people in a game were using it. It allowed unlimited grenades that you could use to just saturate the map and worked especially well in search and destroy for spawn tubing the enemy across the map) -Killstreaks (The Harrier/Chopper Gunner/Nuke combo made nukes easy to get assuming you could get seven kills in a row and just camp it out to get enough kills with your streaks. Killstreaks in general were just to easy to get and when everyone and their mother was dropping care packages, predator missiles, and airstrikes every minute killstreak oversaturation quickly became an issue as well) -Quickscoping (No matter what the COD4 M40 ACOG users will tell you, MW2 with the Intervention was when this really started taking off as a thing you see all the time in games. It didn't help when 6 out of 9 people on a team were trying to do it and failing in Ground War games, and the perk Sleight of Hand Pro, with its decreased aim down sight time benefit pretty much caused it to become a thing in the first place) -No Recoil Weapons (The overused ACR and UMP45 in particular brought this to light in games. Pretty much no weapon had significant recoil, which caused even more camping by people with their laser beam ARs going for their predaror missiles or harriers than their already was) -Shotgun/MP Secondaries (In a list of bad design decisions why not add one more to the list. Whats the best way to make sure campers can hold their building when someone with an SMG finally breaks through the door? Give everyone the option to have a powerful shotgun or machine pistol as an off spawn secondary weapon. The SPAS-12/Raffica by themselves had ridiculous range and power. Giving the player the option to spawn with that, and then an assault rifle or LMG as well put to much power in a single player's hands. Thats not even including the fact that it made pistols practically redundant when you could carry something much better around as a secondary) This huge list may make it look like I hate the game, but even with all this I still thought it was one of the best CODs (After COD4 and WAW) until Black Ops 2 came out.
