Seriously, the single player is amazing in many ways, especially in terms of graphical and audio fidelity. I have never seen a 2009 game look this good, nor have I ever heard a game with a better soundtrack (MW2's was by Hans Zimmer). Probably, not even Halo's soundtrack by Martin O'Donnell could beat MW2's soundtrack. It completely immerses you into the game and the vast battles going on around you. In terms of gameplay, the gameplay is quite amazing as well. MW2 has many innovative mechanics such as iron sights, customizable weapon attachments, killstreaks, sprinting, and more, that influenced virtually all later shooters. While some of these mechanics may have been in previous shooters, MW2 developed them to full and it was because of MW2 that these features rose to prominence. It was also the first game to combine all of them together. The story, though perhaps sketchy at times, was overall, very fun, and quite memorable. The mission variety is amazing and is set in a variety of places across the world with beautiful maps and character models. There are even many instances of characters having interesting conversations that tells you stories about the world you are playing in that no military shooter has ever done, and upon playing the campaign over again I realized that it has used many instances of foreshadowing and irony that makes this, dare I say, an interesting literary work. Over the years I still remember the epic moments of MW2's single player, with Hans Zimmer's epic soundtrack playing in the background.
The multiplayer is quite amazing as well. I would not say it is completely balanced but it is in fact quite well done, and I have to say I had more fun playing MW2's multiplayer than Battlefield 3's. It kept me playing for hundreds of hours, and I would say that is actually rather short, considering I only prestiged twice and there are people who prestiged 10 times.
The coop is also amazing. I remember playing through all the Spec Ops missions with my friends trying to get 3 stars on everything... that was one of the best coop experiences I ever had, up there with Left 4 Dead and other epic games.
All in all, I think MW2 was the true pinnacle of the Call of Duty series, rather than Call of Duty 4. Nevertheless, this went downhill from then on. I really believe that, overall, it has the most complete package of any modern military shooter that no Battlefield game can match. In fact, I would argue that all three components of this game (single player, multiplayer, and coop) are superior to their Battlefield counterparts, as well as to those of most other games. I do think, however, that the Counter Strike series has a better multiplayer than MW2 does.

OP has valid points.

Woah, buddy. Too much to read. How much free time do you have??

BF3 is my personal favourite, but I'm not the biggest fan of modern shooters. TF is pretty similar gunplay wise but that's a sci-fi shooter. It's better than all the modern shooters I've played.

Personality I prefer halo but cod wasn't bad

Looks like someone hasn't played Bad Company 2...

4 RepliesITT: pretending that OMA Danger Close underbarrel launchers and quickscoping and the spawn-killstreaks and the SCAR-H, Tar-21, ACR, UMP-45, Commando perk, Stopping Power, and Ground War on Rust never happened.

I'd rather play Insurgency.

I love MW2 to death. It's my favorite CoD game ever. No matter how many times I wanted to snap the disc in half because of rage, I still played and loved the game as a whole. I put in 50+ days worth of game time into MW2 and still play it from time to time. The reason why it's so good is because it was made by the old Infinity Ward. And you're right, for a game made in 2009 it still looks great. The amount of detail they put into the game made me love it even more. It's a shame that CoD pretty much went into the shitter after MW2 but at least Blops 2 is a great game.
