The technology is not perfected....my father bought one with the high performance battery and the works...the battery ignited while at a stop light, got a second one and it happened again. My family's faith in electric cars has dwindled. It's a cool concept but it's not perfected and needs work as I told my father prior to the purchase, in about 20 years sure right now, no.

True, but then again, all new products have bugs at release. My motto is "Never buy any new electronics until a year after they are released." This makes sure that the bugs, albeit the big ones, and squashed. But as for the idea of an affordable (70k) electric luxury car and putting one on the road? That was great for Tesla Motors. But I will agree that the bugs need to be worked out. [spoiler]On a side note, why did you guys get another one after the first incident (which apparently happened to more than a few Model S')? Why not sue, or at least get an upgrade?[/spoiler]

i'm excited that they opened up their patents. i foresee some cool stuff coming in the next few years for electric cars.
