Are hand-cannons considered good in destiny's pvp?

I watched destiny's alpha on twitch a little bit this weekend and saw no one utilize the hand-cannon.Are hand-cannons useless against other players in pvp, and if so whats so bad about them?

I can't answer PVP. But I did level one yesterday and overall they are good up close. They can do good damage at a distance, but not like the Auto Cannons and pulse rifles. The one I leveled had three perks. Basically an upgrade to damage and the other two were sights enhancements. No scopes appeared, but I did unlock better zooming effects with those two perks. I think it was a MOS v5 or something like that. Personally I think Bungie needs to move them to the secondary slot. They would make better finishers than actual primaries. It's the whole Halo feel with the magnum I guess. Anyways I got a RedDuke with a 55 damage on it today and I've yet to use it. The rifles are to versatile to not use, especially with how fast the Ai spawn in in sections. If Bungie moves it to secondary slot, I think they'll get more love than they are now.

  • I've been very crap so far with them on my Warlock. They have really long reload times and they also seem somewhat inaccurate unless you're scoped in, but perhaps I'm just doing it wrong. There just seems to be more efficient alternatives is all.

  • no, i was dissapointed with the revolver. I wanted to use 1 as primary weapo but it has low damage and clip size and a long reload time

  • I have been playing with an 86 damage green hand cannon and have had great to mixed results. On The Moon map it is a fantastic gun. Provided that your accuracy is good you can kill a foe in about 3 shots. That's around 2 kills for each clip. The problem is that on the other map the game becomes to claustrophobic to use the hand cannon. To many tight corners and close range situations. It should also be noted that this weapon class has severe damage drop off at range. Do not waste ammo trying to hit someone across the map. You have other guns for that. Overall I like using the hand canon, it is a great medium to short range solution.

  • Theyre damage output, rate of fire, and reload time makes them less useful than every other gun. That being said, I have been killed by a couple hand cannons when I want watching. I'd say it's more of a cheeky kill than anything.
