They have 3 months. They could at least add it to the campaign or multiplayer.
Also, several updates and patches will be implemented in Destiny post-launch, so splitscreen can come in there as well.

the interconnecting structure of the game means not one area of it can have split screen, meaning they have to work the entire game. On top of this many in game mechanics and systems needs to be reworked, in game areas need to be remodelled to fit the extra strain of split screen, often lowering texture quality. Gameplay would need to be rebalanced to make people using split screen able to match folks who do not. All this work normally done during a games development. People seam to forget that making a game is like building a house of cards, if you start pulling out cards or adding new ones is most likely gonna crumble parts of it, forcing the devs to build it up again.

The interconnecting structure of the game is already split up for those individuals who are utilizing PS+ or XBL Gold. If you don't have those subscriptions, you are forced to play the game as a single-player experience. You can add "coop" to the campaign and allow for a small split screen experience that way. It's not perfect, but it's something. JTS

And let gameplay be rebalance! Destiny will be updated several times, so they can work on it over time, and upload it when they wish! They have all the time they want.

Three months is not enough time to institute something like split-screen, while still making the Sept. deadline/launch. Further proof you know nothing about which you speak.

Destiny will have several updates POST-launch. Therefore, knowing Bungie, anything is possible. And why are you against it so much? Splitscreen is an option. If you don't like it, don't use it. Just don't ask others to suffer just so you can feel good about yourself.

Bungie is not stupid. They are a HIGHLY proficient game company who know how to plan and make games-- keyword: plan. If they have allowed the chance for the Community to decide whether the game should have splitscreen or not, then they would already have had the game structured for such a change. They don't want to put any more work on themselves than is needed, and they most definitely don't want let the Community down--they love us. I can feel it.
-
So wait. I don't understand. Are you for or against splitscreen for Destiny?
-
I'm simply being diplomatic. If we are to truly reach a valid verdict here, we need some moderation.

Ah. Very true.
