Can we have some African American hairstyles?
Let me start off by saying that i love every thing that I've seen so far. I've spent hours on twitch watching people enjoy the alpha and i can't wait until i get my hands on it.
After shuffling through a few YouTube videos i finally found a [url=http://youtu.be/Lt2eZrIZnl4]video that displays every customization option[/url]. The very first thing i noticed was that the first face option is one with full lips and a large nose resembling someone of African decent. Y'all truly did a great job on that model and I thank you for that! Sadly, my excitement quickly diminished when i saw the hair options. The only ones that can possibly represent African Americans without us just looking, well weird, is number 7 and 11. 7 being some awkward spikes and 11 being dreadlocks pulled back into a pony tail. The dreads look amazing! truthfully, that is the EXACT hairstyle that i wanted to give my character. 7, however is truthfully ridiculous and will automatically be overlooked by most black males looking for a character that represents them. It simply looks weird and unnatural. I see that you have exactly 15 hairstyles for each race/gender combo so i won't ask you to throw off your ratio. I would however ask that you replace it with the single most common black haircut in today's society, the taper fade. Celebrities from drake, ludacris and usher to will smith and obama have been spotted with this haircut as well. The haircut isnt exclusive to african americans either it has pretty much taken the place of the buzz cut in the world. And if i can't convince you to go with the taper fade then atleast give us the buzz cut, high top fade or the iconic Afro. Yes, some will choose hair option but that will be a very small percentage of us. That will lead to almost every single African American male avatar looking the same. This discourages me from even wanting to make my first character black.

The comments have also brought to my attention the lack of beards.
Do not take this as anything more than a request for hairstyles. Truthfully i wish there were way more hair styles and not just ones that would appeal to blacks. However i do believe that based on the ratio of hairstyles available my before mentioned changes are more important to me and to the overall feel of the game.
Black destiny players, please like this post and leave a comment so we can get the attention of bungie.
And even if you're not black give this post a like to improve the game.

While it would be nice to see a few styles and while being black I am not from Africa. So the term A.A could just be said as "some black hairstyles". Being from a mixed generation line family its always annoying listing myself as A.A but being no where near being from that region and from how mixed my family line is down the line.

I support this! I had an immediate negative reaction upon seeing the hair choices for the "black" character. I'm black and want to create someone similar to me, but a brutha needs a better haircut! #PleasePleasePlease

Most white dudes look like they have cancer if they are fully bald. I don't think the intention is for everyone to try to make a character that looks like themselves. I mean there are more robot and blue space elves faces to pick from than white or black faces. I am way more likely to pick a robot or space elf than a human, but adding a fade might be good. I love character customization games but the vast majority of them really screw people with ethnic backgrounds. Hair is always jacked. Just one nice fade is all I'm asking and a nice clean goatee wouldn't hurt. Who does it right? Sadly, EA Sports. Mass Effect was decent too.

Sort of off topic but I think it would be cool of they added the facial generation function like some ea sports games have by uploading a picture of your face and it renders it in game

1 ReplyThe Extended E3 gameplay trailer in the link shows a brother with a close fade near the beginning (around 1.35 into it). Looks pretty good and like it's already in the game! The first look options must just be limited (or possibly defaults and you can get custom cuts later).

Agreed. Although I planned on playing Exo anyway, the fact that character models of obviously African decent were in the game made me happy, and (as someone with dreadlocks) that those were in there is a plus. Bungie seems to have fixed the issue I have with most MMO's/RPG's as far as character creation is concerned. Not to drift too of topic however, a fade would be nice.

Hairstyles and whatnot that represent a wider diversity of the human population would be a wonderful thing to include in games that let players customized their characters. However, I see something like what the OP is suggesting to happen any time soon. Not just because these games are generally aimed at a white male audience, (even though the audiences that play games like this are much more diverse than that) but because every hairstyle takes a certain amount of work on the part of the artists to sculpt and render and encode onto the disc. Barring the possibility of new technology that allows players to actually style hair themselves, a lot more diversity probably isn't going to be shown in a game like Destiny. Destiny, after all, is a first-person shooter (players will rarely see the style of their own player's hair or even other cosmetics with that perspective) and the majority of the time, other characters the player will see will have all their unique character head models covered up by a variety of helmets anyway.
