I saw the fix offered a couple pages back in this thread...I do NOT have XBOX Live...am I hosed and have to play in 480i? Do I need to activate my temporary Live membership that came free with Halo 2? The instructions are not clear about Live status...and will this help on campaign or just on Live multiplayer? Will they offer us a new disc with an update if we don't have XBOX Live?

I have a Sony 30" FD Trinitron WEGA(model KV30HS420) Xbox Settings Widescreen = YES, 480p = YES, 720p = YES, 1080i = YES. It only cuts a small slice of the radar and some of the outline around the Plasma Grenades but not the Plasma Grendades itself. Also, the target is a bit stretched out.

Hitachi 57UWX20B 57" 16:9 Projection widescreen, 480p = on stretched UI as well as cut off. split screen is vertical and very cut off.

Panasonic 47" RPTV, 480p - ON, Widescreen - ON. TV supports everything except 720p HOWS ABOUT AN UPDATE!!?!?!?!!

Yeah, no joke. Im actually thinking about buying the X2VGA adapter so I can still get progressive output but on an lcd monitor. My brother in law already has one and the product is awesome! I would still rather use my hdtv because of the size. The website is: www.x2vga.com

Sony XBR800 36 " Set to 480p widescreen - 4:3 TV with enhanced 16x9 The left is cut off a little but it does not effect gameplay. It would be nice to have the image properly centerd and aligned. Any updates as to your progress or situation? Thanks. [Edited on 11/16/2004 11:35:42 AM]

Sony KD34XS955 widescreen TV with built-in ATSC & NTSC tuner...with my TV set to "Normal" Halo 2 is 4x3 with black bars on the sides and no distortion. This setting results in widescreen movies (my DVD's not Halo 2) filling the entire screen, unstretched. XBOX is set to Widescreen, not letterbox or normal, and I have 480p, 720p and 1080i on "yes." I tried having only 480p "yes" and 720p & 1080i "no" but that changed nothing. The only way I can get the game to fill the whole screen is to utilize my TV's built-in sizing but this results in a stretched image on the sides...the left side shows an oval radar but other than that the screen doesn't look too bad. The stretch is more problematic in side by side split screen where a greater portion of my field of view is stretched. Hope this can be fixed.... [Edited on 11/16/2004 10:40:20 AM]
MY question is: At present what set-up gives the widest actual field of view? I'm guesssing it would be widescreen interlaced? opinions?
That is what I have noticed. Widescreen 480i gives the best filed of view.

Only NTSC boxes are capable of running progressive scan (unless you have a chipped PAL machine) so the main problem of the HUD appearing off screen should only apply to NTSC boxes. The smaller (but still very annoying) problem of a distorted (oval radar + reticule) affects everyone with a widescreen tv. That means that whole bunch of people in europe are suffering the distorted HUD problem, as widescreen tv's have been the defacto standard in european retailers for quite some time. While in the states most widescreen sets are HDTV and thus expensive, and more limited in numbers I imagine. Though my knowledge of the US tv market is admittedly limited and I await being corrected. MY question is: At present what set-up gives the widest actual field of view? I'm guesssing it would be widescreen interlaced? opinions?

Panasonic 47" widescreen TV which supports 480p, 720p, and 1080i. My XBOX has the widescreen setting and all of the HI-def settings on. My HUD gets cut off. Thank You for your efforts in getting this issue resolved.

I have noticed that it is not just the HUD that gets cut off in progressive mode. It is actually that the whole screen is enlarged in progressive mode. The top and bottom AND left and right of the entire view are cut off. Try looking at the view in interlaced mode and then compare it with the view in progressive mode. I found that not only the HUD but also the background is cut off on all four sides of the screen due to what appears to be a more "zoomed in" view than what should be displayed. Mitsubishi, Widescreen, 55", CRT Projection HDTV monitor, Model # : WS - 55413, Model Year : 2003. Xbox Settings : Widescreen = YES, 480p = YES, 720p = NO, 1080i = YES.

I had the same experience with split screen (I have 64" 16:9 HDTV). You're toast if you play vertical split screen. It's not a perfect fix, but if you go into your dashboard and switch your setting to 4:3, you'll get the horizontal split screen.
