In all of these games the first-person view barely shows the player's arms.
Surely I'm not the only one with a huge field of view? Because when I hold my Airsoft rifle (IRL) I can easily see the entirety of my arms - and almost my shoulders.
I always turn the FOV way up in a game if I can, because usually it's set to something ridiculous where only the very front of the gun is visible, plus half the player's hands.
Or is the FOV set so low to help with aiming?

Because people like saying -blam!- You PC Masterrace!
-
I wish your FOV was in #gaming.

1 Reply90 FOV master race.

Why does modern warfare look better than bo2?

Never noticed, I'm half blind in real life.

Consoles

2 RepliesI'm not going to lie, but after playing with an FOV of about 100 for the past few months on PC I get super sick when I play on my 360 for games like Halo and CoD. I just can't play them anymore without wanting to vomit because it's confusing for my eyes.
-
I've always wondered that. It throws off gameplay in Halo when I switch from other games. I hate it.
-
FOV in general is really low on any console game.
-
Performance maybe?

2 RepliesWhat the hell? I haven't seen you in ages.

Because technically there's no way to realistically represent true field of view. The human eye can only resolve detail of about 3-5 degrees in front of us. The other ~170 degrees is our peripheral, which can't detect detail, is only so-so and figuring out color, and really just responds to motion. A 90 degree field of view captures some of this effect, limiting what you can quickly focus to. Sure, in reality you could move your head without moving your gun, but that would force your eyes to refocus on distance and detail, which is sort of captured by the motion of looking left or right in a video game.

I hate high FOV's. Makes me dizzy after a while.
-
A higher FOV setting is more demanding on the system because more things have to rendered on the screen at once. Devs set the FOV low for console games because consoles don't really have that much power to spare for a higher FOV. Obviously, it's a different story on PC.
-
I don't know any game that has smaller FOV than Halo 3.
-
Because it conflicts with your own FOV if it's too wide.
-
So that it doesn't take up the majority of your screen? It doesn't bother me at all.
-
CoD games obviously.
-
Fov 105-110 or bust.
-
promod anyone?
-
Because irl your peripheral doesn't really focus and is only used to detect motion.

Cuz swag
