I really don't understand why everyone wouldn't own a gun when they are legally able to obtain one. There are nothing but advantages.

2 RepliesI dont mean to be snarky but if you really cant see the downside to owning a firearm than perhaps you should'nt have one.

the disadvantage is that it is a lot of responsibility and many people are not ready for it. Like credit cards, they can provide benefits but those benefits are not without a cost. Or cars, sure we can all HAVE a car but is it truly necessary? And have you seen the way some people drive? Now imagine those people with weapons. Sure they're LEGAL but can they be trusted to not kill themselves or someone else? Do you think they'd be responsible and lock up their weapons in a safe? Would they register it? They barely take the time to follow traffic laws and have little to no regard to the rest of us on the streets. Would they take the time to learn how to safely operate and maintain their weapon? I'm all for the 2nd Amendment but just because you have a freedom doesn't mean you should always exercise it. JTS

Realizing that you need to compensate for your small penor and your bitch ass karate skills
-
4 RepliesOne disadvantage would be realizing you're a bitch and can't fight without using a gun.
-
The only problem is that sometimes, when shooting, others can't hear you over your freedom.
-
For older guns, like a .300 Savage made in the early 1900s, ammo is usually expensive and hard to find because few stores carry the particular caliber needed. Cleaning can also be a hassle.

There are a lot of disadvantages to owning a gun, but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't own one. There is a pretty big possibility for accidents, especially with children. I'm probably going to own a gun to protect my home, but there is a lot of risk when you decide to make that decision. A gun is a tool, nothing more. There is a reason you need to keep your children away from the power tools.

When I bring girls over to drug and -blam!- them they might get scared if I have a gun

9 RepliesYou will be proof that you compensate for something....

27 RepliesI think the question isn't "should you own a gun?" It's "should you be allowed to own a gun?" I think you shouldn't own a gun if you take certain medicines, or have committed certain crimes. I also think teachers should have a panic weapon hidden in every classroom. Incase of a school shooting. Sense they seem to happen every now and then.

this is just shitty you're just shitty stop trying so hard

I don't need a gun to defend myself. I've watched several martial arts videos on youtube and even practice on a punching bag. I'd like to see someone fight me.

The NRA will try to recruit you into their undead army.

I would just have one so I can go to gun range and go pew pew pew

The extra responsibility of owning one. You need to be sure that it will never ever be used by anyone but yourself, which means making sure it is not stolen or found by young children, or just stolen in general. If someone is shot with your gun, it's your responsibility, and for some people, myself included, that's just too much weight. And I don't know how I would take it if my gun was used in a crime.
-
2 RepliesIt can unnecessarily escalate a situation if the owner flashes it inappropriately.
-
1 ReplyThere are no disadvantages. The people in this thread trying to name any are either children who have never even seen a gun in real life, or are anti-gun people who are terribly misinformed and ignorant on the subject.

Edited by Y SO REACH BETA: 5/23/2014 6:20:11 AMStatistically speaking, you're more likely to have a suicide committed in the home or have an accidental death occur. Storing your weapons properly can avoid this but most people who advocate personnel defense of their home do not store their weapons safely. It is very unlikely that you will be put into a situation where a firearm would be of use, anyway.
