Will two people be able to play splitscreen on the same console and play Destiny?
Also, will Xbox Live Gold be required to play on an Xbox, or will it be possible to play with a free account?

I am very sure that you will need to have xbox live to play, as many ingame events are linked to servers. And being linked to a server means you need internet access, so, you're going to need live man. Hope that answers that.
