Eeeeeep. What the hell do I do now?
First thing I did was force shut it down. Then I removed the battery and opened it up. It was wet all the way through so I removed the RAM and DVD drive and wrapped them in tissue to dry.
I've kinda dabbed over the system board and got rid of the most wet parts but now I'm not sure what to do next.
How long should I wait before putting it back together? What are the chances of this breaking my laptop? Gah. I haven't made backups of anything in over a month... Jskwjanuagr

Pour alcohol on it, as water doesn't mix with it. So it should push out the water.

Put in a pot of potatoes

Leave it unpowered and apart. Let it air dry for a day and then try and put it together. I agree that blowdrying it is a bad idea. The heat can damage the components. FYI, your hard drive data should not be harmed provided it didn't get shorted out or something. You could try using a USB to SATA connector and accessing it on another PC.

Don't use a blow drier! It's too hot and will screw with the hardware! I spilt water on my laptop about 2 years ago and the customer service IT guy recommended I use one. I later learned how bad of an idea that was. Honestly it will probably come out fine, at least better than mine (the n key is shorted out on it). Leave it to dry and try it in the morning. While spilling things on your laptop is bad, water is the lesser of all other evils in that scenario.

Now you play the waiting game

of all the things you could spill on it, water was the best. sodas and juices are the worst because they're all sugary and such. if the computer didn't short out and shut down immediately, you should just let it air out for a few days, then try turning it on again.

2 RepliesTry turning it off and on again.

Ugh that sucks. I have no idea man. Do a seance and ask the computer gods to restore your computer? :/

If you took the parts out and dried them off quickly, you may have saved it. Try it.

Try blowdrying it a little?

4 RepliesI think you are supposed to leave it to air/dry out for a while before turning it on again. If you have a dry air heater that might also help... but as you live down under you could just leave it in the sun for half a minute <.<
