I'm in a shitty situation: I have romantic feelings for my best friend. Which would be great, if she weren't already in a relationship and that I really don't want these feelings.
The obvious solution would be to stay away, but just the other day she struggled with words, saying how I make her feel "alive", and how much she appreciates me and how I make her feel wanted. She sees me as more than a casual friend, but less than a lover. "Friend love" as she worded it. And that's totally fine. She's one of the greatest friends I've had, and I want it to stay that way.
But the heart is stupid, and she's always on my mind. I want to stay her best friend and just be happy with that.
So what can I do? I don't want to just leave her, she's probably the best friend I have right now, and she's told me I'm one of the greatest things to happen to her in years. I just want my internal struggle to stop and be happy without a nagging feeling every time she talks about her boyfriend.
I'm absolutely terrified of bringing it up to her to just talk about it, because I don't want the awkwardness or making it seem like I'm giving her an ultimatum of some sort. I just want the feelings to go away, and stay platonic. But as of now, it's just eating away at me on a daily basis.
So I want to see what the Flood has to say on this.
