I picked it up when it was free on Origin. I was going to play it on a bus around midnight.
Am I going to be super scared? I don't like scary things, but I've got the game so I feel like I should play it.

It entirely depends on you.

It's the scariest of the three in the series. It's got jump scares which are only effective because the environment in the game is so immersive. I enjoyed it whether it was scary or not, the gameplay is very good.

2 RepliesPlay it on hard the first time, you'll freak the hell out. Imagine if you will, or can, an incredibly long series of white noise, given you have the music up, whispers, again music up, then things bursting out at you running at your from multiple areas as you fight to survive with limited ammo. Then after you beat it on hard, the painful hell it is, play 2 and cry like little girl.

Not that scary. Until you meet mister hunter.
-
2spooky4u It's just full of jump scares.

As someone else said it's not not about being scary it's about the atmosphere they set up with it. I imagine if you're on your computer playing with decent headphones you'll feel that better than playing on a console. The game isn't made necessarily to scare you rather it creeps you out the sound effects do a great job here. You'll hear voices creaks in the walls and vents. Groaning coming from the next room you have to get to and some other fairly disturbing images (blood on wall, writings etc). Make sure you read text logs and listen to the audio logs they give you background and some get under your skin. You'll like the game.
-
Depends if you find a ship full of monsters that can come out of vents and doors trying to kill you scary. you should be fine.
-
Not really scary but you will get scared and a huge amounts of tension. The audio design and atmosphere of the game are spectacularly done.
-
The baddies are creepy and the music and sound design is equally creepy, but it's really just a shooter at its core.
-
Fairly scary. It's the scariest game I've played, at least.
-
Well it is marketed as a scary game. I personally didn't find it that scary.

Eh a few jump scares but you get used to them and eventually you learn to see them coming.
-
It's a great game,but not scary.

1 ReplyI found it more unsettling than scary. You'll have the occasional jump scare, but Dead Space is all about the atmosphere of the game. The environment, lighting, sounds and the need to work towards save points adds a lot of tension to the game, combat encounters can get quite distressing too because the Necromorphs are unrelenting when it comes to charging at you.

Out of the 3 games. It's the scariest.
-
It isnt scary in the slightest. Personally I would rank it 5/10 on a scary scale , but then thats coming from someone with a high tolerance to horrors

5 RepliesEdited by A Cheese Potato: 4/21/2014 12:35:23 PMIt's probably the scariest out of the 3. But it's mainly just jump scares and just unexpected things happening, so it is probably only scary the first time round. Playing it for the second time or more isn't really that bad. The necromorphs look pretty fucked up too so I dunno that could affect some people. Cool game though, I didn't really find it that scary but it was still a very fun game.
