14 Replies>Staten leaves and heads straight to MS >Marty terminated without cause >DeeJ being an utterly incompetent community manager Yep, I'm getting the feeling that Bungie is going down a path that's going to end up with them royally fucked. Good thing I didn't have much faith in them after that abysmal E3 performance.

Hopefully he'll go to 343i, then, and help them fix Halo.
-
'Without cause' is a legal term, basically there was no 'provided' reason for termination, there WAS a reason, they just decided to disclose it.
-
1 ReplyIf those Reddit posts are true, he got fired for asking a raise.

WTF ARE YOU THINKING, BUNGIE?!?!

Thought it was a joke tweet, until I was linked to the news update. Still quite shocked at this turn of events.

Edited by Citrus raptor: 4/16/2014 10:22:07 AMThis ripples my reality. What?! Was that really a smart move, Bungie? Just before the release of Destiny you fire one of the people responsible for what most likely will be one of the game's biggest selling points? But whatever, right, it's not that consumers have any principles, so go on and do whatever. How did Bungie think people would react? The reason for his termination is unknown though, so it's impossible to make a fair assessment of the situation so I'll postpone judgement. But without cause isn't particularly respectful, is it?

343 will hire him. Marty will win a bunch of awards for his work on the future Halo games, and he will laugh his ass off at Bungie for firing him.

I just read the article this morning 😢

Edited by Master Chief: 4/16/2014 11:45:39 AMLooks like it may of been pay dispute..... Quote from supposed "Bungie_employee" on Reddit "Okay. So I can't give out too much detail here, but I will let you know what I know. Marty was a contracted employee, he didn't just get a fee for each game he produced. Marty had received a significant raise in the last few years, but was now asking for another. This created tension between him and the board (some of whom already felt he was overpaid). A verbal argument ensued recently between Marty and a member of the board. Shortly there after he was let go. So there was certainly 'cause' but one that a lot of us felt could be worked through. But money talks. The board feels they can get someone for cheaper, and without the drama, that will have a better ROI. So basically it seems that tensions rose to a breaking point, one the board felt they couldn't work past, or didn't want to deal with, so they let Marty go. I'm not saying it was right (I don't think it was), but that is the situation."

Damn it.

8 RepliesThe hell? Why would you fire your most valuable asset.
-
I think changing our avatars to Marty until we get an answer is a good idea. To show that we support him and his coming ventures.
-
4 RepliesI come from the future!

If they really terminated him without cause then that is disgraceful.
-
1 ReplyWhat the hell.. They really fired a 20 year employee, one of the faces of the company without cause? First Joe, now Marty.. man, I really worry about Bungie's future.

7 RepliesEdited by Iberius Huskus: 4/16/2014 6:43:59 AMWhy is it any of our business if Marty got fired or not? Yes, I realize he is a good composer but what goes on behind the scenes at Bungie is Bungie's business, not the internet's. If he was fired, then it was for a reason. It is pointless for one to start a shitstorm about something one knows literally nothing about. It is their business, not ours, and starting a shitstorm about it is disrespectful to both Marty and Bungie. This is true for every other job, so why should it not be true for Bungie?
-
A personal reason? A money reason? At least give us hint to speculate on.

5 RepliesThis better be the ONE AND ONLY question we have for this week's and every following week's mailsack until we have an answer.

4 RepliesAnybody know who's on the Board of Directors? Nothing threatening, just curious, because this is on two occasions this "Board of Directors" title has been used in the dismissal of a few key people working on Destiny before the game is even out.
-
1 ReplyHe's over-qualified.

This isn't a joke, is it? We need answers! Marty's one of the best in the industry! WTF happened?
