What is the downside of the WiiU

I've been thinking of getting one when the price drop inevitably comes(If only for Bayonetta 2 and SSB4) But will I be missing out on?

Alright, seeing as nobody here has any constructive criticism as far as I've seen, let me enlighten you. The Wii U, while it has less power than that of even last gen systems, hosts a lineup of games that are worth the price you pay for it given you are into the classic series' such as Donkey Kong, Mario, and many others. Seeing as I own one I can tell you that the new Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze, Super Mario 3D World, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, and Wonderful 101 are the top picks for the system at the moment with honorable mentions to Pikman 3 for being so fun, and of course the HD rerelease of TLoZ the Wind Waker. Now, as a negative, of course we have to look at the power of the Wii U and the aforementioned lack of third party support. However, that's been a pretty big case for Nintendo for a long time now, and with upcoming titles like X, Beyonetta 2, Super Smash Bros, Legend Of Zelda and Mario Kart 8, it's up to you if you want to decide to get into the Wii U ecosystem. On another note, the Gamepad is quite nice to handle, but be warned, the sticks have possibly the worst deadzones I've ever seen.

    • The only negative is the lack of third party support. Otherwise you get great exclusives and free online support. I actually play mine more then my Xbox.

The downside is that it's a pretty shitty console compared to it's competition. Shitty specs, no third party support, and not really worth the price. All that shit is actually negated by the fact that this console actually has games unlike the other 2. I wouldn't get this console on it's own. If you ask me, it's either to supplement a gaming PC or if you're just a console guy, PS4+Wii U. I'm actually planning on getting a Wii U for SMB4, Pikmen, Mario Kart, Zelda, DKC, Bayonetta 2, Wonderful 101, and I know there are a few others I wanted. This console has games, and that's what's important. I wouldn't be able to own this console on it's own however.

      • No third party, massive decline in quality of first party, horrible online, poor hardware.

        • Kiss your third party support goodbye. If you have another console or PC, its definitely worth getting though.

            • I finally got one this break, and I've been pretty impressed with the games I've played so far (mostly DKC Tropical Freeze, Pikmin 3, Super Mario 3D World). Obvious downsides are lack of networked multiplayer compared to the Xbox One / PS4, and a lack of power, but solid game design is solid game design in my opinion, a good game will be able to do more with less.

            • there are none, besides the lower specs, and the alleged lack of 3rd party (even though there's plenty of 3rd party games that are great and on the wii U, namely the Mighty Switch Force series) anything else is bullshit fabricated by the band-wagoners.

            • Poor 3rd party support and weaker hardware. The games nintendo is pushing out look great but the weaker hardware is a turn off to many 3rd party devs.

What people dont realize is that Nintendo make game systems cheap on purpose, and ignore everyone that goes because its not/ is a.

Hardly any 3rd party support Every game is mario or a mario spinoff It's for kids You have to use an ipad as a controller It's basically a last gen console.

                • The main downside is that you will notice all the people who talk shit about the WiiU, despite the fact that it's the cheapest console and has the most games at the moment.

Well lack of third part support is an obvious one. Then you come to lack of power compared to the new consoles, the hardware just can't keep up. I feel like Nintendo didn't plan ahead with this console. One of the people who helped design the architecture for the system said that it doesn't matter what the specs are as long as you can make good games specifically tailored to the hardware. Which is true, but once again, they ignore third parties. It seemed to be made to compete against the PS3/360, which was a terrible move. Then you have marketing issues, leadership issues... it's all just one big snowball of bad decisions in the end.

                • Weaker hardware. When developers turn away from 7th gen the Wii U is going to miss out on a lot of your multiplatform games because they are built for the X1, PS4 and PC which is more powerful. If they build them for the Wii U they would have to downgrade the game a lot which would make them pretty much pointless for the real 8th gen. There's already games now that the Wii U is going to miss out on and some are for 7th gen. Hardly any third party support. Nintendo thinks their player base are nothing but 12 year olds.
