Dear Bungie. From your latest Update here's what Destiny looks like.

I so wish I could go back to the 2013 GDC and start over? Because there's a difference between then and now on how this game plays In my head and it isn't good. Here's the perceived vision. After the 2013 GDC it was very grand and much like a new concept car bought by a Sheik drunk on power, but the vehicle no matter how awesome still tends to depreciate once off the lot. And your marketing has driven it right into a light post of doubt. Destiny has gone from this incredible journey of potential, to basically Forge World mass produced to look like various environments and sizes. It's gone from this wonderful adventure shared by a trio of Space Indiana Jones type archetypes to Halo with double jumps and some third person pull outs. Space magic is now simply a Spartan in a cape launching Wraith salvos. The Last City has gone from these powerful concept art pieces featuring life and potential exploration among interesting NPCs to the last defense of a Skybox. Reduced it seems to nothing more than looking over an edge of the Tower as seen from the onset towards a larger moving picture seen in the earliest trailer as Gustav reads us all a good night story. Players are simply walking around stairs and terminals while the city glimmers in the background as a testimony to the art department with little else to offer but the implied... "you're protecting this... Really, really." While I applaud your double jump, slide, and nifty new Evade abilities due to next gen gaming screaming movement and verticality. It still feels and looks like Reach. That's not a bad thing to me. I'm not that critical of that until you place the catch that happened in the E3 between Destiny and TitanFall. While TitanFall has you hopping and hanging like a team full of Spiderman with guns, it kicked the COD dog to the side and introduced a massive partner in the form of your own personal giant robot. Now this was really brilliant of them. But you Bungie, you had them beat in the collective mind of many of your fans. Why ride robots when you could ride giant space fairing dragons in the form of your own customizable Space ship? Well that dragon is now a Cutscene and basically a teepee sitting in the hangar in Forge World that you can put a chimney on. Hey everyone I can reach the Mars Forge World now because I unlocked the hot water heater for my space cabin ship thingy. Woo. But guys check out this hovering snowmobile which really just screams repainted Ghost as a consolation prize instead. He said snarkly. So there's a couple examples of my perception gleaned from your hype train so far. I've gone from caring to... I'm just hanging out to see how this plays out. The inner child says have hope you curmudgeon. The adult is saying it isn't looking too good kiddo. Let's just call it Halo with capes and hope for good firefight sections in Raids and Strikes and well just call it two years of dwindling return and be happy with that. So there you go, good job. I'm more excited about EVOLVE than I am about Destiny. Playing as the Predator Godzilla has its merits. You guys threw around terms like chapters in a book. But other than the white helmet guy there's doesn't seem to be a Princess of Mars to rescue. I know a lot of your former fan base will simply be placated by multiplayer. But I'm not here to represent them. There's a million of them ready to bombard you with gun tuning and map balance. I'm here to say where's the real magic? Where's the story? Where's the planet destroying monster, where's the adventure? Where's outside your Halo box? Just Deej putting out these flowery cooking with Judy updates has just gotten really old with the 2014 GDC being stifled. That's not his fault. But someone saying guys this is a totally awesome sandwich doesn't really play out well in light of Gearbox and Alien Colonial Marines and the state of the gaming industry's push to patch as you go. Trust us say Rockstar it'll get better eventually. Yeah...okay. Our journey with you has been pay walled it seems. The glimmer of hope to be wrong is being printed out on Game Informer's latest monthly. So here I am at 4 am with this horrible nagging vision of Destiny as a ForgeWorld and Reach repainted. A perception that I hope to see dismantled is now resting on your community manager's tired gourmet prose and my stubborn march to see 9-9-2014 regardless of the lack of visual confirmation and the good will Bungie incurred with my family and I with having a blast with Halo and the remaining glimmers of the 2013 GDC presentation and E3 demo.

  • I don't agree with everything you said but I have to agree that it has been tough to hold on. I understand that they must shroud this info in darkness so we get to savor it more deeply as we experience it for ourselves first hand. With that being said, there have been several underwhelming updates and much more teasing than necessary. I am starting to wonder if they should have just stayed dark longer rather than keeping us on our toes begging for more. Maybe this marketing strategy works for some, but I've been following Destiny's development since they signed an agreement with Activision, and I am struggling to stay hyped. I also agree with the mindset that those of us who have stay tuned in and loyal to this website have not necessarily been even recognized. I don't have the skills or time to make flashy YouTube videos or maintain a website but I have read every article and contributed to this community in several ways for the last few years. Yet we don't even get info first here, nor do we get much interaction with Bungie employees. I don't know what I'm asking for specifically. I appreciate what Bungie does and still believe Destiny will be a fantastic game, but I have to agree that the hype is dying down at an odd time in development. Hoping desperately that the beta rescues us from this drought.
